Oil Pressure Wire

On my engine there is a small sensor near the oil filter, with a single wire coming out of it. Is this an oil pressure sensor? And can I tap into this signal for an electric oil pressure guage?
Thanks.

Hi (nice to talk to other aussies, seems we both like manual conversions, mine is runing fine now!) Yes, that small unit is the oil spressure switch. on the 3S-FE's they are on the right hand side of the head. Not sure about yours but. You can't wire a gauge into that wire because the unit is just a switch that has only an on or off state, when there's no pressure (less than 7psi) the wire terminal is grounded to earth, thus lighting the light on the dash, when the pressure goes up, it opens. To run a gauge tou will need to put a T-peice in the outlet hole and install the bellows for the gauge. Hope this helps.

that switch's tap in the block is a good place to get a reading for the oil pressure gauge, you dont really need it... im not sure if in gen 2 it has to be grounded to not throw a code or it has to be ungrounded to not throw a code...

You don't tap into the wire.

Unscrew the oil pressure switch and replace it with an adapter (male 1/8" BPST to whatever thread the sender for the electronic oil pressure gauge uses).

Autometer uses 1/8" NPT for their senders. So if your using a Autometer guage, you need a male 1/8" BSPT (british standard pipe thread) to female 1/8" NPT (national pipe thread).

If you want to keep the factory oil pressure switch, you'll need a T, correct fittings/adapters, and some hose.
