Gen5 Personal Opinions on Aftermarket Gen.5 Mufflers

I want to get a aftermarket muffler on my car, Nothing ricey, something nice sounding. Just add more depth to my car. Does anyone out there have a aftermarket Muffler on their Gen5 Camry that they can suggest?

Im looking to spend anywhere from $70 - $200

I was thinking something off car domain. Like APC or Borla.

Well, first, you have a 2.4L I4, not 2.5. Second, because you've got a 4cyl, its a very tough decision. Personally, I think you should go with MagnaFlow because they specialize in making their mufflers anti-rice. But, if you want the best sound, you should get a bigger resonator, or add another one. It'll mellow out the sound. It'll make it more quiet, but it'll get rid of the raspiness.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Incorrect. You gain nothing but sound from changing the muffler. The only way to increase hp gains through exhaust is by getting headers and a high flow cat. Only then will you get gains. Even a cat-back exhaust system will give you zero gains. If anything, you'll lose low end power because of the decreased back-pressure if you decide to increase your pipe size.

Unless we're talking about two different things... whats "kw" anyway?

Toyota can say that all they want, but you can ask terrastrife. He's the authority around here on exhausts. With just a muffler, there is absolutely no gain.

hmmm........small gains. if you have a v6 it makes even more of a difference. on a larger scale Turbos and superchargers gain even with a catback.

anywho. the stock muffler was huge and restrictive. and plus it went in and out. throttle response

Throttle response, yes. Horsepower, no.

speaking of headers.......wasn't there a guy on here making them for the 1MZ-FE engine.....-_- . i was looking at the exhaust when i was changing my oil.....it really does look restrictive. especially the bend from the headers down all the way to the resonator.

delete muffler. no cost, best gain.

if you want something 'thats quiet', like everyone says, KEEP IT STOCK.

EVERYONE who wanted something 'a bit louder, but still quiet' who didnt keep it stock has been very unimpressed by the increase in noise.

keep it stock then. you cant hear it but if youre pushing your car, the exhaust note is quite loud from the outside. if someone beside you cant hear it, they must be deaf.

also, a 'tuned' sound is haard to get, you cant get the 'turbo' sound becuase you arent turboed, and you cant get a tough na sound (like a 4age or 3sge motor) simply because the engine itself doesnt have the 'tuned' sound to begin with. get some aggro cams, then get an exhaust if you want a 'tuned' sound.

a louder muffler on a camry is just going to sound like a camry with a louder muffler.
