Just an observation for those who may be changing their spark plugs soon. I changed plugs about a 2 months ago on my '92 5s-fe Cam. Changed from Denso platinum plugs with about 80k miles on them to NGK Iridium Laser plugs [EDIT$28/4)] and what a difference!
Smoother accel and idle, and I have gained 2mpg on every fillup since!
Also had my emissions tested for fun at the Alternative Energy Fair and at idle I was only one point below a 2004 Honda Civic across the board!
I am definately a convert to the Iridium plugs.
and plain copper would would be cooler and spark better!
wow!
but yeah if you want hi mileage plugs use those.

No Bowdown here.
NGK Coppers have always run better in my supra.
thats becuase copper are cooler rated and conducts better.
the only reason that you do not use cheaper copper plugs is if you absoluteley hate changing the rear 3 on a fwd v6
but then again, with plats or iridiums, if they get dirty they loose power whatever and you should take them out and check gap and clean em, but then you may as well put in brand new copper plugs in.

As long a s the plug says denso or ngk in a Toyota it usually runs great.
Have you considered that the plugs you replaced were worn out and the new set of
quality plugs made the differance? I'm willing to bet if you put a new set of identical plugs
(denso platinums) your results would be the same.
I have tried all kinds of plugs (iriridiums, splitfires whatever the current rage is) and I've found aprak plug is pretty much a sparkolug since now al ignitions are precise, high power electronics. Sparkplug design made a difference only back in the points/condensor/coil days.Like I said as long as they are quality plugs in the right heat range for your motor it will run great. Irridium or no irridium.
BTW I've been running denso irridiums for the last 10k miles. No difference from the original plugs. (99 camry 5SFE 75k miles on the clock)
I'm tossing up wether to change out my NGK Iridiums in my car for some plain NGK copper ones. Everytime I put a set of Iridiums in (yes this is my second set!!) the car runs well for the first few hundred miles, but then it starts too loose its performance. I'm pretty sure its plug related because when i change them, it runs better for a while. Maybe the cooler, better sparking copper ones would be better. Only thing is I have to change them more often :P

cam01speak: I got mine at Advance too. I forgot I had a tube of anti-seize on that purchase too so the plugs were only $28+ tax.
ToyotaGuy50: Your probably right. If I had put any new NGK or Denso plugs in I would have noticed inprovements considering my plats were about 20k overdue. But I do think that the iridium plugs would give a better flame kernel and therefore cleaner emmisions and a more complete ignition of the mixture.
Anyway the plugs work well for my Cam and I will stick with them. I may give the NGK coppers a try though just for a personal comparison.
