3rd Generation Good idea or not....?

Hi all, quick little question.

I am beginning to do a lot of night-time driving and early morning when it's super foggy and such. So instead of investing into fog lights, I came up with another idea. Replace my stock old 9006 with some whiter bulbs like silverstars or cool blue and put yellow 9005 into high beams.

I know that high beams generally work with the low beams turned off but my car keeps the high and lows on at the same time (dunno why, it just does.) So if i were to use bright white 9006 and like 2500k yellow bulbs in 9006, would that actualy help out with visibility or would it be just plain useless? Fog lights are too expensive and fabricating them into gen 3.5 is a pain...

Thanks!
-alex

Well... uh... its the fog lights that turn off when high beams are on... low beams and high beams are both on when you turn on your high beams in any car. But you shouldn't be using high beams in the fog as it is. The light reflects off of the water molecules, and blinds you. It doesn't give you better visibility.

Also, yellow light shines through fog better than white light does.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

not true, Camry's are kind odd in this respect. A lot of cars don't even have seperate bulbs for low and high beam (I've always wondered how that works)

I don't think it's a great idea, just cause then you wont have normal lowbeams. The lower grill opening is a great place to mount fog lights anyway, and you can get decently priced ones off ebay.

uhm, i see there was a bit of confusion going on. since i mainly don't use my high beams at all, i wanted to put into them low temperature yellow lights. so that when i flick on my high beams i would have my normal white low beams and yellow light coming through the high beams...

[white(yellow)] grille [(yellow)white]

i hope this makes more sense. and yeah, camrys are weird with lighting. when i flick on my high beams i have 4 bulbs illuminating the street.

The point of fog lights is a short flat beam of light under the fog, thats why they are to be mounted as low on the car as possible to get the light under the fog.

I wouldnt put them in the high beam sie of the headlights. LIke someone else said they are probably not going to do waht you want them to do in there. It is not jsut a matter of the brightness of the light but also the way the light is dispersed from the headlight. IF you want fog lights you need to mount foglights inthe lower valance of the car. This is where they will be most effective. In the high beam section of the headlights you are jsut going to get a real bad yellow wash to everything probably. You want the light to be low to the ground for it to be most effective for fog lights.

Yeah, i thought it was ideal for the fogs to be closer to the ground for that purpose of cutting through the fog. For that purpose of what you are looking to do, I dont think it will work out to your advantage.

i can probably explain that a bit

the bulbs used in the Australian Camrys are different to the US.
we use H4 bulbs which have dual filaments in the low beams.

when on Low Beam, the bulb is using the 55W filament (just like normal)
then when switched to High Beam, the bulb switches to the 60W filament which is also in the focal position of the lens.

so when i turn all my lights on (Low, High and Fogs) at the same time, it lights up the street

I've done the 9005 conversion, so I'm running 4 9005 8500K bulbs on high-beam

I can see at night, for an extremely long distance.

It makes for much safer night rural night driving.

execpt that i got single filament like eveyrone else... the 9005/6 are shit compared to aussie H4 lights, we dont have lighting problems at all
