Gen5 Brake Squeek

Ok, i now have 27,788 miles on my car. And ive noticed for the past month when im in a quite place with my car, the brakes make a quick squeek sound when i take my foot off the brake.

Its really annoying and has been gettin gradually louder. And its ticking me off.

What should i look for on my brakes? what can be causeing this noise? does it need tightening? New pads? Lubracation of some sort?

thanks

sounds like the the rear shoes rubbing on the the backing plate when released, see if it does it with the emergency brake.

Sometimes a good blow out with an air compressor gets rid of rear shoe noise

Wear protection from the dust !!

27k? Brakes will squeek! If they are not grinding do not worry about it.

Maybe this will help. I had the same sound when I let off of the brakes. It was coming from the rear. I took off each wheels, removed the brake drum, used brake cleaner to wash the surface, then applied brake lube (autozone $2) to six points on each wheel, where the plate of the brake shoe actually touches the backing plate. Look for little marks from the rubbing between the two surfaces. You can pull the shoe off the plate with a small vise grips, or even wedge a large screw driver between, just make an 1/8th on an inch gap and lube it up. After that, no more squeaks.

had the same shit on my gen 5 v6 se.... changed the front brake pads today and the squeaking was due to the right brake pad worn all the way down the metal!

Brake pads are designed to squeak when they are supposed to be changed (just like a baby crying).

o btw i have about 27k on my car too!

the right brake pads were 50% gone but i still changed them and resurfaced my rotors. Total cost was about $60 ($20 for resurfacing and $40 for the kragen ceramic pads).

1200mk, if ONLY ONE SIDE of your pads (1 set) was worn down,
with the OTHER SIDE still with 50% left, you've got a STICKING PISTON
on the WORN OUT side !

If the cars uder Warranty, take it in ASAP & get it fixed before the
SAME thing happens AGAIN !

Even stevens

Both sides should wear evenly...

How much is actually left there depends on how much you brake,
not on the number of miles you do !

Take the wheels off and check the brake wear on the pads. Sometimes they squeal because they are dirty not because they are worn. Do not spray with compressed air. The dust contain some stuff you don't want to be breathing in. Get some brake cleaner and spray all over.

Australia Asbestos ?

Touring, here in Oz Asbestos in brake pads/shoes has been OUTLAWED for quite a while, does America still use it in brake components?
