Lightbulb Custom LED array for HVAC controls - 56K-Nay

I first tried using brake lens repair tape with the stock incandesent bulbs. Its works surpringly well except the blue on the temp range turns purple (unless u don't filter this area). However, after redoing my stock stereo LEDs, the red didn't match perfectly. I wanted a deep deep red, which my stereo has from the 660nm LEDs.

Replacing the stock incandesents with #74 LED bulb results in very unevening lighting. So I made my own custom array of 660nm SMD LEDs. Enjoy the pics!!

PC board cut to size:

LEDs glued in place:

Perfect fit!:

Oooh... Ahhh..:

I took apart my A/C Knobs and the bulb that emits the light is white. But the faceplates for each knob is is transperent green. How could i get around this...i want it to be a Light blue color like like the color of my guages.

^ sorry man, I don't really have the time right now and the time/money offset isn't really worth it. Unless you have some Franklins lying around that you don't want.

very nice work there! i was planning on doing the same for my gen 3. the only difficulty im having is getting the brightness balanced between different sections of the dash. eg, the cluster is brighter than the hvac or the cigarette lighter lights are brighter than the cluster ..very annoying!

^ Yeah i hear u on that. Try finding some 1-3 mil tinted plastic sheets. U can use these to dim down your areas that are too bright.

Wow Snakeyes,

Man, you don't seize to amaze me with your lighting projects. That is a real great change.

How did you cut you circuit board to fit perfectly inside? How'd you measure it?

Great job.

I just used some thin cardboard w/ a pair of sissors and a x-acto kife to cut out a template. Then used a scroll saw to cut out the circuit board.

So snake, could you help me with a lil project of mine?

I want to change the colors of my Climate controls from Green to blue. The light Emmitted from behind is white, but the knobs have a lens around them or something that is colored green. How can i change those glassy Lenses to diff colors?
