USA Recurring stalling problem

Hey Guys,
Looking for a bit of help.My wife drives a 95 camry,4 cyl,has approx 136,000 miles. When starting the car it often dosn't hold the idle, stalls,if she starts it and races it it will hold the idle..Have had the throttle assmbly replaced twice and 1 of the 2 cadallic converters replaced..Tried putting some cleaner in and that seems to help very temporary..The car never really sounds like it has a strong idle..any thoughts of what can be causing this??Is this common for this model?? Thanks ......

Bump from the dead for the same basic issue on a 96' 4cyl Camry... Sparatic at best, but it definately happens ... On occasion the better half complains that the car dies out upon start-up, or won't start to begin with ... Though I can drive the car for ten days straight and it's perfectly fine, I have experienced the problem once ... Almost seems to be idle related, but 99 of 100 times it's perfectly fine, so I wouldn't say the idle is too low ... Recently troubleshooting has given the Camry a new battery/wires/plugs, and the pro-deal shop injector cleaning ... Any thoughts or possibilities? ... Maybe a link to the IAC valve cleaning or something?

I agree with cleaning the idle air control valve. You can do this yourself. Just remove the big tube off the throttle body and get some throttle body cleaner or O2 safe carb cleaner. Spray the cleaner liberally in to the throttle body with the engine off. Have someone hold the gas pedal to the floor for you, so the back side of the throttle valve is exposed for easy cleaning. Now on to the idle air control valve. Inside the base of the throttle body you will see a square or diamond shaped port. Spray liberally in to that port. Let it soak in there for a few minutes. Then put everything back together and start the car. It will be hard to start and will smoke liberally for a few minutes after it starts. You might have to hold your foot to the floor to get it started; this is how you start a flooded engine on a fuel injected car. Once the car starts, take it for a 15 minute ride to clear all the cleaner out of the system.

Drive the car normally for a few days and see if the problem is gone.

Mike

Thanks Mike ... I'll give that a shot and see if that rectifies the problem ...
