As I was saying.. My girlfriend was driving to work one morning last week when she said a pedestrian went into the crosswalk at a green light two cars up as she was crossing the intersection and the car in front of her slammed on their brakes. The car behind her braked and veered right leaving her nowhere to go which resulted in the person's car in front of her getting a minor scratch.
Our car however didn't fare so well unfortunately.
Walker motors (ford dealership) quoted the repair cost at $US2548.52 is this unreasonable?
I am not going to be taking my car there but instead to a reputable body guy which heard my idea and needs my final approval to go oem or actually go with aftermarket body parts.
What does anyone propose I do. My thoughts are to take advantage of the situation.
I however, Have a few questions.
How much does it usually run for installation and painting of a body kit?
Most body kits fit pretty well, I take it as I've seen quite a few cars around with body kits.
Does anyone know the quality of these parts?
How often does the kits on ebay fit well? I'm looking into this getting this kit.
hmm its strange how the car behind veered to the side before she had nowhere to go...
this is why i dont let anyone drive my car

I've been overall pretty nice to here about what happened. I didn't get angry when I finally got to see the damage. I laughed actually. I told her that the punishment for doing this to our car is a body kit and that's final.
I am however still uncertain and that's why I posted this thread, So If anyone has any opinions or whatever, Thanks again.
I've only let my ex drive my car once... and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time... she didn't do anything bad or drive it hard or almost crash it or anything... but I was just so edgy about not being behind the wheel... never again. lol

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

The person i'm hiring to do the job seems very good and knowledgable about what he is doing.
When I went to speak with him he had a police car he was fixing. (See the car all banged up made my day)
So you think I shouldn't be too worried about the fitment of the parts I have linked and also Leasuance stated the price to be alot. (I'm glad I took it to the dealership for a quote then.
I feel the same way about my other car now. (My* daily 1996 pontiac grand prix se) I don't like anyone driving it but me. My buddy of years and years wanted to drive it. I instantly declined him privaledges.
Thanks for the replies everyone, Keep them coming as this is a pretty giant decision.
dunno about wher eyou live but its illegal to repair a hood in australia safety bullcrap
rememerb if you start to rice her out.. go all the way with no grets.. many a ricer have gone and reverted to stock because they got tired of it

The biggest thing with that price is the cost of paint. Sure, you can go and buy parts of wrecks and put them on, but then to paint it all..may cost a bit. Do some research on how much it would cost to gather parts yourself and then get it painted, as opposed to the method your describing. You may find it come in cheaper. This is all if you just wanna get your car back to stock. If you wanted to "mod" and take advantage, then i'd say go for it. It's the perfect oppurtunity and would be a waste of money if you went stock parts.
I don't know much about Gen 4 kits, but i'd assume they fit well..there are poeple on TN with them.

Haha yeah, you should have no problems with the fitments. At least, I haven't really heard of any real problems. But I think that if you get a kit, you should get a set of springs also... get rid of that fender gap. It'll really stand out... but yeah. Best of luck.

2500 sounds about exactly right for that amount of damage. My car had almost the same amount of damage several years back due to a fender bender and the dealership quote was 2500.
You can save yourself some money if you buy the parts and then bring them to the body guy. The front bumper is really inexpensive, the hood however, not so much, and the front fenders are really cheap. Your car being painted flat black is actually a plus because many come in black primer that looks identical to yuor paint!
Assuming that the frame had no damage and that the doors haven't been bent by the impact, you can fix this for:
$435 if you need a new hood (Remember its 242, but remember how much is it to repair what you have).
I make no money or kickbacks for what you buy, I just know this awful feeling. I also work at a college and have a lot of down time with nothing to do, so I help people.
Good Luck, and remember its not so bad, she could've done much worse to the car or herself.
I think that price might be a bit high but seeing that repair charges in US is a bit over priced. I had my rear bumper resprayed and it was like $350. It was not replaced, just resprayed.
Seeing that you have quite substantial damages, ie. bumper need to be replaced + resprayed, ur looking at $600 for that alone, + headlights, hood, fenders, etc.
I would go with CF hood :-)
About installation of these parts listed, usually it's easier to replace OEM after a crash than a body kit.
A body kit usually isn't a perfect fit and almost always needs to be fiberglassed (resin & or bondo) to fit right. If you are paying to get the kit installed and painted flat/matte black, then you are going to pay a lot mroe for the prep work. Painting Black or Red are the most expensive colors because of how much attention to detail must be made on every step.
If you buy a new part that is meant for your car it will be much cheaper than the body man fixing a part and repainting it. Its cheaper than a body kit too because of the bondo/resin.
If you buy the panels, you can paint them yourself (make sure it's warm out) and install them on the car yourself. But unless you are a very competent painter, DO NOT paint it yourself, it took me 4 years to be confident enough to paint black and red professionally. I still hate doing it too.
If you buy the parts for 430 bucks and pay to get them installed and painted, I think you could get out for under a G total. Cheaper yet if you remove the old stuff yourself. If you don't have a clearcoat, that will be even cheaper.
