How do I get teh cigarette lighter out of the black plastic. The black U shaped piece is the last peice of my dash to paint, but I can't figure out how to get the lighter out...

i just pushed two ittle clips in a tugged at it, and out it popped. Make sure you disconnect the power, i had the two wires touch and BAM!

The white clips? I couldn't get them to budge, and I didn't want force them

Old thread, but I still haven't gotten this thing apart. I kinda forgot about it. so how do I get this thing apart? where/ what do i need to press and what not? I'd rather not break it trying...

I never did want to force that piece out either, though it does look like it can come out

what I did to paint it was to just put masking tape inside and around the cigarette lighter part and then push it down with a screwdriver so that it was perfectly rounded around the cigarette lighter part, and the painted over it- and it came out perfectly
