Question about camry manifold

I'm from celicatech.com and a memeber over there has used a 1998 Camry exhaust manifold (5sfe) in place of his stock one. I am looking to do something similar. So I came here looking for more information and found this: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t34405.html . My question is, what year and car did this manifold come from? And my other question would be, would I see better gains with this, or one from 3sge if I could find one?

Thanks in advance for your help.

rip headers are 4-2-1 that pic looks almost looks like a turbo manifold re flanged for no turbo...

who the hell would run a short 4-1 system if they had a choice...

pacemanker make 4-2-1 headers

you can ebay them sometimes if you dont wanna buy em new..

dont get SS autochrome headers unlessyou like to weld them every 2 weeks

It says right in there: so thats why I wanted to use a New Stock Toyota Manifold.

This is what I did:

1. New Toyota Exhaust Manifiold, $117.00, Online Price

and then later

STOCK TOYOTA MANIFOLD with JET-HOT COATING- They look like a set of Headers.

no where in there does he say its from ripp mods. and i know you can't get them for $117. that's a manifold price.

http://celicatech.com/forums/showthr...camry+manifold

That's the topic where someone used a 1998 Camry manifold in their Celica that I was referring to. They look the same, just one is coated and the other isn't.

You are correct about the manifold being a stock one and Jet Coated. It is from a 1998 Camry. I don't know if it will flow better than what you have now or a 3SGE one though.

Well right now I still have my stock 5sfe manifold (1990 Celica). So both the 1998 Camry 5sfe manifold and 3sge manifold will flow better than what I currently have. I'm just not sure which flows better than the other 3sge or 98 Camry 5sfe.

Why would you want to use an OEM manifold in the first place?

The 3sge exhaust was designed for the 3sge, not the 5S. Both will fit, but you'll need a custom downpipe and it'll also have bigger exhaust ports so you'll never see the true benefit unless you have the head port-matched. Even then, it's not going to give much of a benefit. Getting exhaust out means nothing when you don't have enough coming in. You're really at the wrong end of things.

I wouldn't try this though with a 3sge header. The 3sge header is made for the 3sge, thus all the bends and so forth may be better suited for the 3sge which is a MUCH different engine than a 5sfe.

i guess if you broke ya old one and had another stock one spare youd put it back on.. just at least port match/grind the ports.

One more thing. Too big of exhaust ports = not hot enough of an exhaust.
Yes, you want a hot exhaust, this makes the gases thinner, thus flowing better.

I don't think it's a very good idea (unless you couldn't tell?), go get a ripp header and dp and call it a day.

A 1998 Camry 5sfe manifold would flow much better than the stock 5sfe manifold on my 1990 Celica. And the cost is a lot more to my liking. I love my car, but I personally won't allow myself to spend $460+ on a header for an economy engine, especially when its an automatic. I mean the hp/$ ratio is not justifiable for a Ripp Mods header.

This is similar to what my current manifold looks like (probably have to copy&paste):
