4th Generation Road Hazard Experience!!!

Just wanted to know from those of you that have upgraded rim sizes (17 or more) the types of road hazards you've encountered that have damaged your rims. Please give us the car, rim size, and the type of road hazard, and any other experiences or funny stories (good or bad). Thanks.

dented all 4 rims of my 17s by getting on top of an island going ohhh....about 70kph or so.....

blew one tire out right, and bubbled out another- both in the front
the biggest dents in the rims were hammered back with a sledgehammer, and then the worste one finally cracked 2 years later (last year) when I made my 17s my winter rims and I had to buy a new one

lesson learned: don't hit islands

Pot-holes are the main cause of dented rims, especially in NY. With my old set of 17s I had 2 dented by pot holes. Thats why you have to get forged rims

hit a big pot hole, one rim+tire bent real bad. Ended up buy another rim for cheap. Lesson, next set of rims will be forged.

I HATE POTHOLES! I BENT 2 of my front forged 18" BBS RCs. You know how they say that roads in the Northeast suck? Well, it couldn't be any more true...

even if the wheels are forged if u hit a pot hole going 60mph+ ur going to dent it.

i dented my right front side rim hitting a pothole going 70mph. it felt like somebody hit me in the head when the rim hit the cement...ouch....stupid rubber band tires

Yea of course you can still dent the wheels but there is a lesser chance. I've hit MANY potholes with my racing harts at high speeds and havent dented them yet. If my wheels were cast forget about it.

I voted I hit the curb. But I did not hit it head on. I made a turn with too small radius and I scratched the rear inside rim and tire on the curb. No dents though. I've hit potholes, drainage gutters, expansion joints and all that good stuff. I hit one pot hole hard enough to mess up my alignment slightly and throw the glove box open, but the rims have no damage. Scared me because I thought I had a flat because it was pulling a bit afterwarrs, or a dented rim. Rim show no signs of damage. Drove home and did an alignment and all is good.

My rims are LP Cast 17x7.

3rd Generation Bent Rims

I hit a curb once turning left too widely and damaged my front passenger wheel. Hubcap fell off and bent the steelie, but still driveable. Got a used steelie from a junk yard the next day.

On another note, I'm gonna partially hi-jack this thread... If there was a bend on a rim (not the steelies or stockers), hammering it back into shape won't harm the rims? What about driving on it without whacking it back into shape?

Edit: I forgot this was for 17"
