2nd Generation Problem with the radiator and a/c fans

A while back i had a problem where i would cut the engine off and the radiator and a/c fans would cut on and the engine wasn't even hot. It hadn't even kicked on with the engine running yet. I thought it was just bad wiring connections, then it went away. About 2 and a half months ago i replaced my radiator and hoses i cleaned the fan relay switches in the fuse panel and yester day the same thing began to happen. I cut off the car and the fans cut on. Right now i have the relays pulled while i'm not driving it.

I was thinking, has anyone had problems with this car's thermostat sticking cause that would explain why they can still be on with the car off?

Thanks in advance for any help!

so your problem is that the fan does not shut off?..it stays on whether the ignition is on or off? if so it could be a few things...coolant temp sensor...or your relays not 100% if its any of these...but check these first.

i think i have finally found the problem. remember i have a v6 gen2. there is a temp sensor that is not listed in the haynes manual on the left side under the alternator and the belt. the wires have been eaten through and i think the sensor also needs to be replaced. the wires are shorting out and this has to be the problem.

Sometimes the contacts within the relay will stick. This causes the fan(s) to run all the time.

Plug the relays back in and see if the fans run all the time. If they do, tap on the top of the relays with a wrench or whatever. And if the fans stop running, the relays are the problem.

I'm not sure about that sensor on a 2VZ-FE. But on a 3S-FE its the A/C water temp. switch (for radiator fan, 2wd).

The sensor screws into the neck where the lower radiator hose is attached. Its also the thermostat housing.
