Need help on rack and pinion replacement

Hi guys/gals,

Sorry I post here, but it is so true that technical people are here (nobody go to avalon forum )

I started a thread early this year: TEXT

Any body has hands-on experience on replacement of rack and pinion?

Thanks a bunch!

I've got PS leak for almost a year now. At the early stage, it leaks very slow. It didn't leave any stain on the ground after a overnight parking. So, what I did at that time is to top off the fluid from time to time.
Amazingly, the leak stopped during summer, but came back again these days. Now, it will give a puddle after overnight parking.

After searching the internet, i found it's a wellknown problem for early year avalons (mine is a 96). The only cure is to replace the rack and pinion assembly.

If replacement is not that hard to do, i will not consider the stopp-leaking additives.

The jobs I have done: Timing belt, rear valve cover, and two drive axles on this car. Drive axles for a 97 accord.

I have no experience of the rack and pinion replacement.
Any inputs how to do it?

Thanks Fredk, could you be a little more specific?

I have done some reading, but need some guide from more experienced people.
