From a co$t perspective, I'd say go with Crappy Tire rubber. I'm running on Blizzaks right now, but truthfully, if I had to do it again, I'd get a "generic" brand.
Out of all the brands mentioned above, I'd pick Nokians (studless version

). The Sweds know what snow and ice realy means :wink: My dad has been running on Nokians for the past cpl of years and they seem to work very well. Blizzaks only have 50% winter tread and Alpines are wayyy too expensive.
PS- don't forget to get narrower tires with winter rubber and -1 size your steel rims to save some money.
