Trouble starting sometimes, RPMS drop to 0

My 97 camry has lately had some sort of starting problem. The motor will start but then the rpms drop down to 0 and the car shuts down. To get the car running right, I have to turn it on and press the gas for a little, or I have to shift it into reverse or drive as quickly as possible to keep the RPMs up. Spark plugs were just changed 3000 miles ago with Bosch platinums I believe (if that has anything to do with it). Anybody know what the potential problem is?
