Tapping Threads

Sorry to post such a basic question, but I did a search on it and couldn't find anything:

(91 Camry 3sfe auto)

The threads on the rear brake drum are shot. I assume I need to drill and tap them. Can anyone tell me specifically how to do this?

How many sizes bigger than the original should I drill and tap my hole?
Is that all I need to do? (Drill out the hole, then use a tap to cut threads into it?)

Don't really want to buy a heli-coil for this if I can do it cheaper the way I asked.

Thanks,
Jefe

what threads are you talking about. The ones actually in the brake drum it self to use for removing the drum when it is a little rusted on. If so I wouldnt really worry about them. If you are having trouble getting the drums off jsut get a good hard rubber mallet and tap the drums till the come loose, make sure you spray it down real good with some type of penetrating oil. like PB Blaster or something like that. WD40 wont really do you much good. If you are wanting to drill and tap them it will be hard since the metal there is only like an 1/8th of an inch thick if that much.

If you are talking about eh holes where the wheel studs come through they are not threaded. You just beat them out then press, pull new ones in.

Thanks. I was actually talking about the little holes you use to get the drums off. I ended up re-drilling them and tapping new threads. I think the originals were 8mm, 1.25 and I drilled out and re-tapped with 10mm, 1.25.
