intercooler

Gday.

I have a 3sfe 91 camry.

i have been working on a budget and have extractors back exhaust at 2.25inch. cold air intake and a few other minor mods.

anyways

i want to supercharge or turbo the car. and i was wondering which intercooler would do the best job. i would be after a standard top mount/front mount any intercooler realy and it needs to be efficent and small. that will be placed in the front mount position. looks dont matter btw.

something real thick from a used vehical would be cool. im after sugestions this is not a want to buy but if you have something for sale give me a buzz.

I know this doesn't really help, but you should think about a 3sgte- then you don't have to deal with internal upgrades, etc. and the work amount will probably be about the same- and you can even keep the TMIC

Would'nt it be wise, if your doing it in parts, to upgrade the internals then on the "'ol 3sfe" ?? Makes more sense than bolting a turbo to it first...and asking about intercoolers...

since you are are on a budget... check with the intercoolers from mk3 supra, and a lot of saabs and other turbo cars. just go to the junkyard sometime and look around for what will fit best. im sure you will find something.

jetspeed i get your point but did i say that forged internals were not on the list? did i say that i would be an idiot and wreck the engine straight up? but i guess i shhould have pointed that out at the start.

My plan is to collect the parts which can be had for cheap when they come up at a good price. im asking about intercoolers now so that i can look.

anyways if i wasnt going to get forged internals why would i be on a budget. i got one quote of 7 thousand for the whole deal (forged evrythings.)

10psi on any medium sized turbo will make you need to upgrade pistons, head gaskets, and make sure the engine is in good shape.

from the best of my knowledge - there are not really any tmic applications that you will find - that will fit under a camry hood without some cutting...

when i got my fmic - i went to www.johnnyracecar.com - they have recived good reviews, and has not failed me thus far - i opted for the 6 inch model and another plus was the price tage - $179 shipped to my door - i think the prices have gone up a little, but still that is a graet deal for an intercooler that is fine well up to 350HP - especially on a camry

grasb one off an old truck, like an isuzu or mitsu. Also, running around 7psi you can get a mistubishi eclips intercooler, its small but thick. I am using one off a saab. Check your local junkyards, they can be grabbed rather cheap.. just make sure its in working condition.

also a thought... you could go on a DSM forum, or supraforums.com and look for stock intercoolers.

stock lancer evo or supra ic's are decent, and cheap, because theyre used

although a bit hard to plumb.

get an SC14 hooked up, that would be sexy

not a powerhouse, but sexy

Look for some SRT-4 intercoolers... I've seen them floating around on the web recently and a lot of the Honda guys are jumping on the deals. seen them go for $75, and they are good up to 260WHP or a bit more depending on airflow.
