Ok, Toyota nation I have sinned. Please seomone set me strait. I have been trippin on this 99 prelude thats up for sale, well they want 10K for it and well, I have about 3500.00$ in my bank account to play with and I have an offer on my car for 8K. So im thinkin bout sellin my cam and coppin this prelude. I mean its NEW, has 100,000 less miles than my car AND twice the HP. my gen 3 two door is only what....120hp? MAYBE. The stock 2.2 VTEC is 200HP!! and its shift-tronic.
BUT.......I have a 2 door cam, lowered, full kit, 18 inch rims, exhaust, custom interior, a few engine mods, ect. You know all the fun shit. Its rare and NO ONE has a hooked up cam in my area let alone a hooked up two door. I dunno what to do so I fugired a bunch of toyota enthusiast could talk me into keeping my car cuz I REALLY am thinkin bout trading it for that Lude.

so how much have you put into your car? how about the labor on your car? is it really worth selling it for 8k? and like you said NO ONE has a hooked up cam.
thats a tough one. i have a 97 lude with the h22 and everything is so balanced. go for it. just make sure it isn't the SH model. the SH seems to be having alot of tranny problems.
so I bought my cam origianly stock for only 3200.00$ but the rims were 1300$/ body kit and install 1200$ three point racing seats 500$/ springs 200$/ custom cat and install 300$/ upgrade tranny 1000$/ engine mods (intake, spark, wires, fuel rails, throttle body, ect) 500-700$/ stereo 500$/ 5% tint 200$/ TRD decals 15$ (HAHA added 25HP)/ Strut bar 65$/ HID headlights 60$/ clear corners 50$/ Dyno mat trunk lid 175$/ Tach 150$/ Viper keyless entry 120$/ Steal braided radiator hose 60$/ Green brake pads 75$/ black velvet door panels, glove box, headliner 25$ (5 hours of teadious work for me) im sure i could think of 20 more little things here and there but thats the breakdown of the shit I can think of right now so it comes out to around 5000-6000 plus 3000 for the car. right around 8000

Oh man snap out of it. WHy you want to go and be like everyone else. You cant turn your back on the Camry.
Seriously though the Preludes are nice and if it is as good as you say it is then why not. If that is something you ahve wanted in the past and thinkit willserve you as well as the Camry has and hopefully will in the future then by all means go for it. If you can really get 8k for your Camry then that seems like a good deal. I mean waht is blue book private party for your Camry. Plus the extra money you ahve put into it with the mods and all.

Well say you got 9k in it and you can for sure get 8 then I would be hard pressed not to do it also. Normally the modifications you do to the car are not going to help it retain its value or really add value to the car, unless you find the right person. Look at BigBodyLX he jsut sold his Camry and had to take the wheels and CF hood off of it to sell. People look at that stuff and they think the car has been abused or something along those lines. I am assuming you have an individual that is wanting to buy it from you since there is no way on earth you would get taht from a dealer on trade. If you can for sure get the 8k for it then I say go for it.

if you have a serious buyer for the camry, then go for it, if not you still have a great car. I love my prelude, its fun, responsive and like i said before honda really did their homework with this car, the brakes, suspension and motor really work in harmony. i love feeling the v-tec kick in.
yea...its actually a 17 year old kid...easy sell for a car with rims and a body kit. I love my car and the fact thats its rare...but I want a prelude too....why cant I just have both...why is this world so unfair.....and actually im sure I could save for it and as much as I make have enuff to buy it outright in about 8 months.....but you know...thats 10 grand I could invest in some BAD shit for my cam...

thats what im sayin, and the shift tronic is nice to have. I actually am a secondary on a 3.2 TL with shiftronic so sometimes I can race with it and if im just chillin put to automatic.
Those ludes are sweet with some coils and rims alone. I think I might pass this one up and save for a while and just buy it right out....I love my cam to much to get rid of..
Oh and for an acc NSX needs a clutch..I wouldent care I would buy it anyways to add to my collection, I just park it at a friends house or rent it out LOL

I give it a big to trading your car for a prelude...if you could get a 6 spd 3.2 s, then maybe......
but things that I'd think about:
- insurance (at least in canada- the difference between a camry and a prelude is quite substantial....I could go get another car, but could I afford the insurance? doh...)
- you're trading for a sports car that's not even stick- that limits your eventual potential anyway
- and you're trading for a non-unique stock car (even though it can outhandle and out speed your car already since you have a 4banger)
- and for real, the prelude is a nice car, but it's not that fast- though it has plenty of potential and plenty of bolt-on parts
in short, if you're set on getting a prelude, at least get a 5spd and swap your rims over and just get some new tires
or if you really want a new car, get something that's also rwd
and if you're real hardcore, then stick with your cam and see where your money takes you...lol
