4th Generation Engine Mods

Hello. Ok, i drive an 01' Camry CE 5 speed. Its only a 2.2 4 banger and i know its not fast. However i would like to make it a little better then it is. I was talking to a guy at work and he was telling me to get an intake but not an alluminum one because it will allow the cool air that is getting sucked into the engine to get hot. He says go with a rubber intake hose because it will not allow the air to get hot . Is this true, would the rubber work any different? He also says to replace my plugs and wires with performance ceramic plugs and wires. What about this? Will it help horsepower wise? As you can tell i know little to nothing about cars. So any responses would help. Also, if you know of any list some mods that would help with hosepower that arent too expensive. Thanks

doing a CAI and changing the spark plugs will give you very little gain of HP. But when you change it to CAI your engine will sound meaner...

metal to rubber....not enuff difference in the two to make any drastic effects, plugs and wires is a good way to go, however again...not really going to make a big difference. Cheap but good mods, now talkin CHEAP your about at your max with plugs, wires and intake.

You really wanna make a difference in performance get a performance intake mainfold, throttle body, header, fuel rails, injectors, fuel pump, I could go on. Best bet for about a 20-25HP MAYBE 30hp would be an intake, header and cat back ehaust system. your lookin at around...ummmmm 400-500$ and thats the quickest cheapest for the increase in HP

OR on an 01 you could just go out and spend that 400$ on a 50 shot on Nitrous, if you do get Zex (dry shot since your engine is normally aspirated) Get Zex, it has Active Fuel Control that monitors the nitrous being injected into the fuel and of coarse has the throttle position sensor.

Headers, u wanna try and get DC header..best headers made. Cat back doesent need to be bought, they are WAY to expensive in my opinion, take it up to an ehaust shop and have one custom made from 3 inch pipe. thats what I did and only cost me about 300$ with a universal muffler. It sounds incredible. most cats bought as is sound like a pissed off weed eater, mine sounds deep and throuty.

Fuel rails are what distributes the fuel to the injectors that sit right on the back side of the top of your engine. It just helps get MORE fuel into the combustion chamber, injectors I just explained, Intake manifold is what distributes the air into the combustion chamber, upgraded one is bigger, more air!!! throttle body is what the air box (or air intake) plug into. Its what determines how much air to let into the engine. When u press the gas pedal it pulls the throttle cable which turns the valve inside the throttle body letting air into the Intake manifold...god why am I explaining the workings of an engines AF??

ITS JUST A BIG VACUME!!!!

I dont know much bout dc headers. I just know they are a good brand..what the other big one..chikara er some shit..thats a good one..but really any brand would work good.

Mine is the same way with the sound, my custom cat 3 inch piping is one of the best sounding exhausts I have heard. I copped a Apexi muffler, sounds incredible

make one yourself.

try to keep the runners the same length thogh.

general rule is intake manifold should be 2x bigger then the engine capacity. so get a 4 liter manif9old on the 4 banger, and on the v6 well, good luck :P
