Lightbulb De-Carbon for OLD MOTORS

After reading Tony the Tigers report on Water Injection, it prompted me to write this thread.

Water Injection :

Helps reduce carbon buildups by steam cleaning
Here in Oz for a number of years we've had various de-carbon business's and it "may" be something to look into if you have a tired old engine.

As far as I can guess the "cleaning" would remove carbon buildup from around valves which increases flow and would help with a whole range of associated problems.

Downside could be with carbon cleaned off the top of the pistons a few lbs of compression may be lost...

Anyways I thought I'd mention it as an idea for people to look in to

As an after thought, if this is done and you suddenly have a fair bit more POWER,

DON'T go and start flogging the motor as the top ring will have left a LIP in the

bore and by "over reving'' the piston will STRETCH thus catching the ring on the LIP

and breaking it.

ALSO applies to any car driven SEDATELY then SUDDENLY given a bootfull !

Allways "gently" increase the RPMS with any motor that's been driven NORMALLY or it's gunna go splat real quick...

this confuses me so im just going to agree.. i have no idea what or how the top ring can leave a lip.

all i know is that hte best way to run in a new engine is to get it to temp and run it like ya in a race (so that the rings cna bed with the block smoothly, if you do it the granny way, they will NEVER bed well and youll leak past hte first ring)

On the cylider bore thing....
If you've done at least a few engine overhauls you will know that this is true.
Overtime the rings wear out the cylinder bore.
You have to use a tool called a ridge reamer to cut the ridge at the top of
the cylinder bore just to remove the piston and rings intact.
