4th Generation Plugs and Wires

Hello. My 01 Camry CE 5 speed was in....not so good of shape. A friend of mine owns a supra (which i plan on.....barrowing it one day ) Told me he thought i needed new plugs and wires. He pulled my plugs out, they were used and needed to be replaced but he said one was "Double Firing". He said that i was driving on barrowed time and it could break VERY easily. If this happened my engine was done for. So i had him call AutoZone and order new plugs and wires, Denso Irridum Plugs and Bosch wires. Was this a good choice? He says i can get a bit of HP out of them. Im installing them tomorrow. Thanks

Denso is the original toyota equipment
I know that for the spark plugs, either NGK or Bosch does not work well with camry.

As mentioned, do a search

welcome..

^ NGK or Denso.

Stay away from Bosch. Same with their plug wires which have a habit of falling apart.

4th Generation

According to the Hayness manual, it specifies
NGK BKR6EKPB-11 spark plugs for your Gen 4
Camry.

Wow...you have a rare car!!! Camry V6 5sp!!

NGK or Denso plugs are fine. Stick with platinum plugs, iridium plugs don't yeild much noticeable difference and can cost more than platinums. Any power increase you get is probably from new plugs and wires anyway.

Stay away from Bosch. Toyotas don't like them too much for what ever reason.

You can get NGK wires from http://www.sparkplugs.com for about $35. They are the same as OE wires, but they're blue in color. Don't get the $100 plus power wires, any gains will be very minute.

I bought my OEM plugs at AutoZone for 7.50/ea. 50 dollars total. I spent about 1 hr putting them in with a rachet/socket only. They were densos. The dealer wanted 11.00/ea. I can't believe I bought the same plug at Autozone for 3.50 cheaper at Autozone. Wires are hardly replaced.

in '94 the OEM wires sucked, unless they've inproved them. My factory original set were completely worthless around 50k miles. Had to put in Accel. Now running NGK wires and NGK Irridium IV's. Seems to run very nice.
