cold idle rpm

I have a 2000 camry 4cy LE for about 5 months. Ever since I bought the car, when I start it with a cold engine, regardless of outside weather / temp, the cold idle revs to about 1800rpm. I have to let it idle for about 4-5 mins to warm up and then it gradually drops to about 600-700 rpm.

Can anyone tell me what should the cold idle rpm should be for this car as well as normal (warmed up) idle? I know the idle is controlled by the ECU and some sensors but I don't have any reference points as to what the idles should be. And, is idle adjustable at all, eventho it is controlled by the ECU? If it is adjustable, where is the adjustment? The thing is, if I don't wait for the rpm to drop first before driving, the transmission takes a toll and engages with a lot of force and I don't think it is a good thing by any means.

On my 93 Civic, the cold idle rises to about 1000 and drops to about 700 when warmed up. This is the only reference I can compare the Camry to but they are not the same car.

Appreciate any help I can get.

On all EFI Camry's,
Cold Start Idle RPM : 1500-1800RPM
Op. Temp RPM : 700RPM +/- 50 RPM.

So what you describe is normal.

As the others have said, this all sounds normal.

Also, I wouldn't wait too long for the car to warm up. I would wait about 30 seconds at most ambient air temperatures, so the oil is circulating throughout the engine. Then just drive slowly until the engine has reached normal operating temperature. The only exception to this procedure would be when the temperature is around 10 degrees F or below. Then I would wait 1 or 2 minutes for the oil to circulate before drivng off.
