I've found some of that 'peel and seal' stuff used to sound deaden the car, and my trunk lid definately needs it, but i'm wondering how to finish it off. everywhere else is covered up with carpet so thats okay, but on my Gen 2 its metal and after i lay the stuff down what do you all think i should stick over it for a nice finish? i was thinking some carpet or thin MDF, but i want to hear some other ideas before i go ahead.
I would definitely recommend that you use 2 layers of peel and seal in the trunk if you are going to do the panels. Since its not as thick, it doesn't work as well as dynamat or other sound dampning materials.
Yeah thanks. the boot lid is definetly the major cause of rattles (besides the rear bumper which is also very bad but i have no idea of how to take it off). on top of the peel and seal i am thinking of using some carpet underlay foam to help absorb the vibrations.
You could just leave it unfinished if you use stuff that has metal on the non-sticky side.
Yeah i wouldn't mind leaving it there but my Mum, who still "technically" owns the car (i'll be buying it off her soon) wanted it to look stock like.
96CamrySt4-nice sound proofing install, must have cost a bit to Dynamat the whle boot.
BTW the peel and seal type stuff over here is quite a bit more expensive than in the 'States or Canada, about AUD$70 for 144mm x 10m, but still better value than the alternitives. how much does everyone end up using in the boot to fill it up?
Well fortunately for me, I knew a kid who worked at Best Buy here in the states and he bought me the dynamat trunk kit at cost.... around $45 U.S. !!! I also got 3 rolls of peel and seal for random parts of the trunk as well as the doors @ $12.99 U.S.
