Brake pedal goes to floor

I drove my wife's 2004 Camry LE today and found that if I stopped and kept pushing the brake pedal, it would sink until it just about touched the floor.

Service guy says "They all do that!". Do all 04 Camrys do that? I sat in an 06 in the dealer's showroom and the pedal initially had the same soft feeling, but I pumped it a couple of times and the pedal got higher and harder.

My experience is that a sinking pedal means air in the fluid. What's your take on this?

Thanks.

Go back to the service department and ask them to show you that in another 2004 Camry. They are bound to have one in the service department or on the used car lot. When someone in the service department tells you something that sound hard to believe, always ask them to show you the same thing in another vehicle.

The part about the pedal getting hard with the engine off after a couple of pushes on the pedal is normal for all cars with power assisted brakes.

Please describe in more detail, as in same stroke, but more push / effort or...
push... Push...ppush type of brake application.

How does the car stop? Can you lock the brakes up until the ABS comes on if you have it? Is the fluid level up to par? What does the fluid look like? Have you tried bleeding the brakes? Okay no more questions!

sounds like air in the brake lines....but then again, usually that would mean that you wouldn't even be able to stop your car until you've hit rock bottom and the pedal won't go any further

Gen5

yup, my 2002 camry brake pedal goes pretty deep too before a full stop and i was wondering about it too. I tried bleeding them... but didn't notice much difference afterwards... so, i guess they're all like that. it's totally different from my parent's Gen 7 Accord that press a few cm and it's a full stop already

^ try adjusting the e-brake, it gives you a higher pedal height...
