Speaker adapter plates, which one fits which year?

I'd like to order some adapter plates for my new '99 LE and from reading the forums it seems a little vague which style fits which year. (I've got to wait for a few days before I can get my '99 but I'd like to get the adapters ordered now)
I've found some Ebay auctions for plates and the fellow selling them thinks this fits 92-97:
http://home.inter.net/~moellerg/adapterPlate/rearold.jpg

And he lists this as fitting 98-05:
http://home.inter.net/~moellerg/adapterPlate/rearnew.jpg

And he lists this as fitting the front:

Now, from reading the forums, it seems the cutoff point between old and new rear plates seems to be gen 4.5.

Can anyone confirm this? Have a look at your 98, 99, 00, 01 speakers and see if it's 3 or 4 bolts holding it in?

Thanks!

Uh...I don't know if you've installed speakers on a Camry before, but they're not exactly convenient to get to. Fronts require removing the entire door panel and the rears require taking apart much of the back seat.

I have the stock front speaker from my 2000 Camry though:

I have a 2000 and the rear 6x9" use 3 bolts. I had a 1996 and it also used three bolts. Although I do believe the '96 was a symmetrical arrangement like the first picture you posted. The 2000 may have been different like the second link.

Just drill new holes, they'll fit fine.

Yep, I know all about how hard it is to get at the speakers, but I've rebuilt engines so hopefully it won't be too much worse.

your first and 3rd links will work. the 2nd one isnt for your generation....although ive heard some camry's are different. I personally used the 1st and 3rd.

Edit...Word of caution...for each of those plates...for my camry the 3rd bolt hole never lines up so i had to still drill my own hole. I decided not to drill the car and to drill the plate instead. Way easier. Just measure and do things right the first time...

Dont screw up like i did for the rears and have the rears rattle forever...and ever.....Unless of course i somehow get that fixed. lol

Not sure if this is direct at me, but I didn't mean that it would be a difficult job. Just that it's a pain in the butt to get to look at the speaker to figure out what adapter plates to use.

If you want, you can PM cam2xrunner and ask him for contact information for Marv. Marv can make you some custom adapter plates to fit your new speakers.

to harness or not

Hi! Thanks for the plate adapter info.

I'm wondering if you all would recommend using a (Metra or other) speaker harness or just soldering or otherwise connecting the wires to new speakers. Thanks in advance.

I use the adapter harnesses, so much simpler soldering in the comfort of the house rather than crouched down in the car. They're pretty cheap as well, less than $10.
