Oil Level when starting car

When I park overnight at my friends driveway, I worry about starting the car while the car sits on a 35 degree slanted driveway. I'm not sure if the engine oil pump is picking up the oil properly while warming up the car. I can park it downhill [backup to exit the driveway] or uphill[front towards the street]. Do you think its safe and if so, which direction should it be? Front end higher than rear end ?

Todays engines are more advanced than what you give them credit for. It doesn't matter if how you park. Your comment leads me to believe you think all the oil drains back to the catch pan..and waits for you to re-start the car...No necessarily true. If i were to park at an inclination, i would back in (ie. keep front side lower than the rear).

Is the oil pump pickup located towards the front or rear ?

As long as your oil level is correct you should not have nay problems. The pickup is fairly low inthe oil pan and pretty much centered. SO with the correct amount of oil in it the pickup will be below the oil level at any given time. Like jhbhatia said engines are designed with most of these type scenarios in mind. WHen you start the car as long as the oil light does not stay on then you should not have any problems.

LOL. It makes no difference.
The pickup is low enough that on almost any incline, the pickup will still work...unless your at a 90 degree/upside down...:P
