I bought a set pof Phillips Blue Vision Ultras for my 2000 camry and installed them yesterday. Took the car out this morning and was quite pleased with the amount of light from these bulbs compared to the halogens I used to have...when I came to a stop at the first intersection on my way into work, I noticed the passenger side fizzled out. So I drove home to grab the packaging and the receipt so that I could run out at lunch and try to exchange the busted bulb for a new one. When I got home I took a look at the headlight assembly. Not only had the bulb fizzled out, but actually EXPLODED and now there is glass everywhere inside my headlamp assembly!! So not I have to try and figure out how to get the glass out of there. I don't have an attachment small enough for my vac to get inside the assembly, but I wonder if the vac will have enough suction if I simply press the nozzle over the hole where the bulb goes in?
Anyone else have this happen to them? Thoughts?
Also, I wonder if I should take out the other blue vision and return it along with the broken bulb and get something other then Phillips? Phillips seem to have a good rating though.
hmm.. well you could take off the lens on the headlight housing... theyre glued on but if you look around in the forum its been done when trying to make the headlamps on the 97-99 gen 4's headlamps clear... i think they just gently broke the seal of glue and took it off.. then the housing is open for you to clean out... and as for returning both bulbs... id say do it before you have to clean out the other headlight assembly... although i know those bulbs are pressurized with gas but almost ALL bulbs are... it must have had a good jolt to break it open... or maybe it was a manufacturing defect?
This can happen but very rarely, I use Phillips Blue Vision
myself and have only good things to say about them,
Malfunction of a product kan happen to everyone, so just
get a new pair of Blue Vision, just remember to be carefull
when you insert them and keep your fingers away from the glass
and you should be fine, so *no* fingermarks on the glass. The fat
in the fingermark increases the temperature of the bulb and can make
it overheat and explode
When you vacume the headlight keep the nozzle halfway over the bulb hole,
*do not* put the vac nozzle directly over the hole, you could destroy the
headligth that way
If you dont leave a gap, the glass in the headligth could
implode, and you dont want that. there is plenty of suction
to get the briken glass out of the headligth even with a gap
Edit: if you dont belive me try and put a paper bag over the vacume nozzle
and turn it on, then you will se the destructive power of vacume, i can guarante
that the paper bag will impolde, yeah it a lot harder to do that with a headlight
but ive seen it happen with my own eyes
Cool...I will try that tonight. I suppose the other thing I could do is un hook the highbeam lamp so that there is an opening at the other end.... My headlights have two lamps in each unit high and low.
I had a Silverstar blow up on me once. Combined with all the other Silverstars I bought that failed after only a year, I swore never to touch them again.
I just saw the price of Silverstars at Canadian Tire and man, they are expensive! $26 each!
I though $13 each for cool blues was bad...
I can understand why you would give up on those, you'd have to take out a loan to keep investing in them.
