Check Engine light for 90,000 mile service?

Hi. My next door neighbor has a 2000 with the 2.2L . I changed her plugs, fuel filter, oil and filter and air filter and recommended she get her timing belt changed and transmission fluid repaced(which was brownish). Anyway, her CE light is on...did it come on at 90k and can it be easily turned off?

i may be wrong but i don't remember toyota doing the required matainence CE light thing.... may want to just pull up to a Autozone and just get the codes read.

or you could just pull the battery cables off for five minutes to reset the computer...if it comes on, then is't something---so then get the codes read.

if i'm wrong, someone please correct me.

If the check engine light is on, that means the cars computer system is detecting something that is out of the normal range. Maintanence lights are seperate. About 70% of check engine light problems are related to the evap. system. If the car is running normally, just make sure the gas cap is on tight, find out what the code is and go from there.

The light doe snot come on for normal maintenance. There is a code stored inthe computer and you need to know waht that code is to have the problem fixed. It could be something as simple as the gas cap was left loose whiel the car was running or it could be something major. Did the light come on after the tune up or before? Maybe there was something taht ws not plugged back in after you did the tune up stuff. Maybe a vacuum hose or sensor connector.

Thanks for the info;I'll do the things mentioned. I think the light was on before the maintenance. BTW,as far as I know, there are no driveability problems.

Check engine light

I bought a 1999 camry yesterday for a daughter to use. After about 20 miles the check engine light came on. I reset the light by pulling off the battery cable for a few minutes however it came on again. Please repost or email me on what the trouble is, i got 85,000 miles on this Ce Camry. marylul@hotmail.com

If the check engine light is on, you need to have it scanned. Without knowing the code theres about 2,000 different possibilities.

If there is an Auto Zone nearby, take it there and they will scan it for free. There are a lot of parts stores that will scan it for free. They'll give you the code. Write that down and post them here.

Some of the people here have probably experienced whatever issue your vehicle is having so pry their brains for their experience.
