3rd Generation Autotrans help!

Hi, owned a '92 and '93 Camry- both destroyed by semi's. Now own '91 truck, '92 Camry and '01 Camry. '92 is 2.2L autotrans 235K and has been running great. Fluid has been changed about every 50K. No problems beyond 'normal' slow to upshift to OD when cold. After several normal city miles followed by 10 miles hi-way - I exited to a stop. On takeoff it barely moved until speed reached around 30mph. Obviously stuck in 3rd ar OD. Same at next 2 stops. After hours parked it shifted OK but I didn't drive it far. Anyone know what to look for? Stuck solenoid, speed sensor, something causing wrong signal to/from ECM or is trans and/or torque converter about gone? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Update: I haven't been driving the car much and work mids so- anyway, tried driving it a bit and it was fine for two stops and then got erratic. I'm slowly learning tho. Pulled the codes and it says the #1 solenoid is the problem. Just pulled the pan and found it. Will be testing it tomorrow. I'll let you know in case anyone cares.

yeah if i would have seen this sooner, i would have said, one of the solenoids is bad... lol...
you can maybe grab one out of a junkyard car for cheap.. or pick up a used auto tranny for like 150 bucks, they are SOOOO common too.

on the road again...

Solenoid from friend's salvage, new gasket which came with a screen/filter (I'm a little concerned- it's for my tranny but the screen area is about 1/4 the size of the old one), nearly 5 quarts of Dexron III and everything's good so far.

The best manual available for tranny work is an ATSG manual! Covers everything you need to know on trannys. I believe that they have them for Toyotas. Check at NAPA that is where I get mine. They are also available online.

Once the pan is dropped the solenoids were obvious. They were on the driver's side one toward the front and one toward the back. One has a white wire and the other is black. According to w**.rockauto.c** the #2 is the black wire (part# TCS15) so the #1 is the white wire (part# TCS14). Mine is a A140E tranny. After removing mounting bolts just grasp and wiggle out. There's an O-ring sealing it in place. Only physical difference I could see was the bracket welded to the solenoid. Actually think both solenoids were OK after bench testing and blowing out with 65psi air but I had one from my friend so I changed it. Calmped the body to the neg terminal of a spare batt and then jumpered the connector and touched jumper to positive. Pressing air nozzle to center and then touching jumper causes air to blow thru passages. With no power the air should not pass. Hopefully this will make perfect sense when you've got one out. I was confused until I did it. Good luck.
