Air Intake or Drop-in?

I've seen both on people's cars. From what I understand, both give better mpg, AI jacks some torque and adds more high-end power, and drop-in, in general, flows better overall without any major losses. What would you pick?

i'd go with a diy cold air intake. a cone filter has an increased surface area and allows for more flow, but exposes the intake to hot air (which is a no no). a drop in filter has less surface area (means less flow) but does not expose the intake to hot air. so go ahead and get the best of both worlds by making yourself a cai. then again an intake isnt gonna improve your perfmance much anyways. :-?

I was kinda looking for a regular air intake instead of a cai. Custom CAI would be pretty fun to build, but me being in california kinda puts a damper on DIY sheeit. I know I can always put the stock airbox back on, but I'm a good boy  Soo...yeah. Intake vs Drop-in, anyone?

How is being in California relevant to this?

where i live they are, apparently they create 'undue induction noise', its total rubbish-virtually all modded cars have 'em. on the poll question i say get a pod filter-they look better. i actually almost bought one today, but thought to hold off till the shop sees my car so i know which one to get.

If for some reason you get pulled over and a cop sees your DIY CAI, you could get ticketed. I'm pretty sure emissions would still pass :P
