My Camry won't start and the alarm goes off - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

Hi
This morning, my 1996 camry won't start. I don't understand why. I tried several times to turn the key but nothing happened. Then I opened my door to get off the car and the alarm went off and now, the alarm goes off everytime I open a door.
I'd like to konw how to switch off the alarm and why my car won't start.
I'm not sure the car won't start because of the battery because i forgot to turn off the headlight during the week-end. But the radio and the electric windows work so I'm not sure the battery is dead.
I don't have my remote control anymore

Do you have factory alarm or was it aftermarket.
I'm guessing its aftermarket. Seek out your button to disarm (with out a key), Usually its the lower side of your side panel..where your left foot resides when driving. Depress that and then turn the key on to start your car...see if that works.

take a look at the battery terminals. see that there is no corrosion on them. take them off and give them a good scrub with sand paper both on the battery and the terminal peice. then try starting your car.

My alarm doesn't go off anymore
But the car still won't start
I think that it's the battery because my I open my window (automatic window), the radio stops. I could do both at the same time before
What do you think?

low/Dead battry equates to clicking noises when starting up. (and no radio/windows).

remove the battery and have it checked. how old is the battery ?

also while the battery is out, clean the starter terminals.

How bout you just go and try to jumpstart it and come back and let us know if it starts....

^^ they're right.

if the battery is low, you won't be able to start the car.

but also if the battery is out and you studdenly get put in a better one, the alarm will sound off on you.

you need to:

1) hook up jumper cables
2) disarm the alarm like Jhabatia is telling you
3) after the disarm then the engine will turn over because now the starter isn't disabled.

do it that way or...

another battery, disarm, then start engine

It's most likely your battery. Most of the time car alarms will set off if the battery is extremely low or dead. Just check up the wiring and see if there's any battery leaks or corrosion. Most likely, you might need a new battery or wiring.
