random questions

new user here, so if im asking the same old questions everyone else does, sry. Ive got a 1998 v6 le with about 81k. Bought the car about 6 mos ago with about 68k. First of all i have the stock 2 single din radios ontop of eachother, one 3cd changer, and the other the regular am/fm/cassette. the cd player does not like to play any burned cd's, or any greatest hits cds, and i was wondering if the double din combo is better about playing burned cds etc. Also if mine has an amp, where would it be? It puts out a lot more bass than my friends who doesnt have a amp, but i really dont think i have one. (because if it doesnt, i want to put one in)Also i have really ugly 15" wheels, they are kinda star shaped with a centercap that is held with a flat head screw(if that makes any sense)and the lady that had it before me felt the need to hit every curb in town...is there any way i can minimize the appearance of the curb rash on there, ive tried to dremel tool it down, but it just discolored it. Also i have a little wire and hose looking thing going up into my seat back on both front seats but i dont have power seats...what could this be? thought it may be side airbags, but toyota said it wasnt. Its got the factory securi-key plus remote start, and i see in the owners manual where u can get the key programed to do a remote trunk release, which i would rather have then the remote start anyway, and i was wondering if anyone would know how much work and money that might be. also if you put any weight on the steering wheel at all, it falls into your lap, and i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. It came with the wooden paneling inside, but it doesnt have the gear shifter trim, radio trim, or the sunroof switch trim, and i was wondering if there is any place any of you know of to buy this seperately, instead of all in a kit. If i add a spoiler with the brakelight, will that screw with the lamp out system or whatever its called? Also what generation is a 1998. Welp i think i asked 6 months worth of questions, so any input is greately appreaciated. Sorry for my novel there.

uhm well a novel it is..
just to start, i can at least tell you what the tube and wiering
that goes to the seats are. You probably got heated seats, to confirm this look
in front of the center console, there should be 2 3way switches
with HI and LO marking on them, if you have these switches
then you got heated seats

You have a gen4. If add an aftermarket spoiler, your lampout indicator will be fine IF you keep the stock 3rd brake light in the rear deck functional.

On the CD player, sometimes the brand of CD-Rs seem to make a difference. I have the double DIN deck and everything is fine so far.

The radio should work unless like Tom said it is the brand of CDR. I have the double DIN in my 94 with the single CD player and have not had any problems with it.

THe wire coming into the seat is more than likey for either the seat belt chime or possibly a airbag sensor. I am not sure if the 98 has second generation airbags or not but probably one of those two things.

The curb rash not sure about but you could try looking up wheel repair on google. there are lots of companies that claim to be able to repair alloy wheels but not sure about the quality.

The steering wheel falling you need to make sure that the lever taht is suppsoed to hold the steering wheel in place after you adjsut it is working properly . ON my 94 it is a ratchet setup so as long as the teeth are not broken then it will stay in place. SOme cars have a setup that is more of a cam gear type setup . When you move the lever to the locked position then it put pressure on teh mechanism to hold it in place. it should be on the left hand side of the steering column in either case.

As for the spoiler if you go with a factory OE spoiler then you will not have any problems because there is a plug to actually disconnect the the third brake light in the back deck and plug in the spoiler light and you will not have any problems. IF you go with aftermarket you will jsut need to make sure you follwo any instructions that are included with it.

The wood trim, jsut take it all off. I dont think you will be able to get jsut the pieces you need unless you go to the dealer and it is going to be expensive. That stuff has a bad habit of turning some really wierd colors after it has been in the car for a while. I had it in my COrolla and it ended up turning green. I have seen it turn a purple color also. Heat it up witha hair dryer and just remove it. then you will have to clean it really good to get as much of the tape off as you can.

I think I answered everything i could.

thanks so much for all the input. Its not only burned cds it wont play, it wont even play NOW cds, or totally hits or even some of the newer cds, on the cd-rs it comes up and eays err1 or something like that, but these it just spins and spins, but doesnt play. The seats arent heated, and the toyota tech said he wasnt sure but he thought it was the seatbelt chime, but i didnt think so (but i wasnt sure) because it has it on the passenger seat as well. The steering wheel issue is bad teeth in the gears, ive already had that diagnosed, but i was juss wondering if anyone else has had that problem. The main questions i wanted answered were the spoiler and the generation question, thanks to those who answered

well for the stereo it may be time for a new one. as for the wire in the seats it is very possible it is still for the seat belt. I know on my Sienna there are two seperate lights one is for the driver and one is for the passenger. so that is still a possibility on yours. I worked for Toyota for about 3 years and I cant say taht I ever saw a tilt steering adjuster go bad. NOt to say it didnt happen i just never saw it. But hey anything is possible.
