4th Generation 99 camry I4 14 inch tires can I put 15's on?

I just got a 99 Camry the other day. It is the I4 LE with 14 inch tires. I had a buddy a couple of years ago had a 97 Camry M-type body and it was an I4. He sold that car but kept the 15 inch alloy rims he had bought for it. Keep the long story short he gave those rims to me last year. He was unsure of which tire was on them. From what I have seen they can be 205/60/15 or 205/65/15. I would like to put them on my 99 Camry but I have a couple of questions that were not answered on previous forums. I searched at least and could not find. Here you go.

1. I would like to keep my Speedo as close as possible to normal. From what I gathered it seems the 205/60/15 would be the closest. Is that correct? When I go to sears though to look for tires their web page says to get the 205/65/15. I don't want to get the wrong size tire.

2. I love the smooth ride that my car has. Will the ride change for the better, worse or same after getting the 15's mounted?

3. Will there be any clearance issues at all. I know they came from a 97 Camry which is same generation but it was a M-type. I think the M-type was just for the body styling.

4. Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Put them on and you should not have any problems at all. Your speedometer should not change enough for you to notice. Sometime in the production of the Gen4 Camry they went to a 15in wheel as the base wheel I think . Either way if the car were to have come with 15in wheels they would have been a 205/65/15 so you will be fine going with either size probably.
The 97 na d99 are for all intents a purposes the same car. SO if he didnt have any problems with the wheels and tires on his car you wont have any problems with them on your car.

As far as M-type I am not quite sure what you are talking about. Unless it was a regional dealer type option package.

when you go plus-sizing on wheels, the tire size diminishes to keep the speedo in line. Hence if you go w/ 15's and the size mentioned, it will be fine. if your going from 14's steelies to 15 alloys, your ride quality will stay the same..

Question

So should I go with the 205/60/15 or the 205/65/15?

Rim will fit.

So only thing you need to wonder about is the tire size.

Compare your CURRENT 14" tire size to the new one.

do the 205/60/15 for the most accurate size as far as the calulator they linked to is concerned.

If you are wanting the speedo to stay as accurate as possible it will be the best bet. The circumference and revolutions per minute are almost identical.

4th Generation

great, I will go with the 205/60/15. I just wanted a few people to agree before I paid for the tires. I value all your opinions much more than a salesman

Thanks again, Matt
