Hi Guys,
I basically do not know much about Cars. I am having a problem w/ my 1993 automatic Toyota Camry (V6) and I am hoping that you guys can help me out.
When my car goes uphill around 45 miles per hour it starts shivering or start getting hiccups. I showed it to the the mechanic who changes my car's oil and he drove it and found that car is okay. I am not sure if these people know what they are doing (regarding engine problems) or are they trained to discover engine related problems. I am talking about Precision auto care shops. I was wondering if you any of you can explain or at least help me narrow down the problem.
Thanks.
When is the last time you:
Change spark plugs and wires
Change/flush the transmission fluid
Chnge the air filter
Did a coolant flush
Change the fuel filter
Balanced the tires
Parked your car for a long time, causing flatspots on the tires
im guessig youre engine is knocking under low rpm high load situations, use better grade fuel. if it doesnt go away, check all ignition and air electronics.

I apologize if some information is not clear. I am very stupid when it comes to car as I do not know much.
- Car has around 101K miles on it.
- I had 90K miles service a year ago and I am not sure what they do in that service. I am guessing they flush the fluids and stuff like that.
- 1.5 months ago I got a new radiator w/ fresh coolent (antifreeze)
- I do regularly oil change
- 6 months ago I got one new tire and all the wheels were balanced/aligned.
- I think when we do oil change they change either air or fuel filter.
- I have the car for last one year and I have not changed spark plugs and wires since then. I am not sure when the previous owner changed it? and I do not have a way to contact the previous owner.
- I have not parked my car for long period of time. I drive it preety much 5 days a week and daily 80 miles.
try higher grade fuel for 2-3 tanks. if hte problem goes away, well there you go.

my ? is, is it the engine doing the shivvering or the tranny...? my 92 dropped tranny at about 128K, shivered, and jolted into 1st and 2nd, fine after that. then quickly got worse (and was driven to shop) in going to shop it would shivver up hills...but i hope for your sake its not all this.

To Axel Kain: I am not sure what a tranny is? Could you explain that. I have turned on the engine and opened the hood and I can see the engine shaking or shivering while the car is parked. My car is also automatic and Not stick shift.
Not sure of this applies to your vehicle, but replacing the spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap, and rotor, solved the hesitation problem with my 92 Paseo.
TO : 5spd V6 ClrTail : What should be included in Tune Up?
- What type of mechanic do i go to?
- What would he do in the tune up? (what things he would change/replace etc..)
- What is the average cost of tune up?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks for the reply. I have already changed the above things and it costed my around $525. I am sure that I got ripped off. The mechanice told me that he need to take off plenum. He charged me $230 for parts which were selling for $80 at kragen. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer my mail. I also need to change the timing belt and water pump of my car and he is quoting me $600. I know now that this is way too much. I am going to change my mechanic. Thank you very much for you help.
