Gen5 Maint Rqrd Light

has anyone experience anything like this on the '05: had first oil change at 3000 mi, second oil change at 6000 mi, next oil change due will be at 9000 mi. currently at 8000 miles. got the maitenence requied light lit up on the display. the ride looks good with no obvious problems or issues. did toyota create an automated maint. rqrd. lights on for some particular reason? lol.

This is to alert you of your 5000 mile oil change interval. It will light up every 5k whether you like it or not

to clear:

1. set your odo to the od position and not the trip position
2. turn car off (remove key)
3. foot on brake pedal
4. hold down the odo button
5. put in the key and turn the car on
6. in about 5-8 seconds it will reset the light and the odo will go all dotted ----------

should be good for another 5k

This is from memory, check your owners manual if for some reason it doesn't work out

^ that isn't how its done on a 04. With the car off and the odo blank. Push and hold the trip reset button while turning the key to the on position (not start). keep holding it unit it blinks all zeros.

That method has been working fine on my '05. Will be hitting 15k pretty soon.

Yeah, I just included more steps/details. What you said is the middle of my steps and is about the same thing

The reason is on the 05, if you don't put your foot on the brake and you hold the odo button in, it controls the seat belt alarm function on/off and not the maint light.
