one of my hood struts is blown and i dont wanna get new ones, only to have them blow again. is it possible to revert it to the old school manual support rod system? would i be able to find stuff at the junkyards? what would i be looking for?
for some reason i feel like i already posted this earlier today. if i did, i apologize.
btw i drive a 92 xle v6

its possible to do it....you'd need an actual support stick thingy... a place to mount it and make some holes in your hood that you can rely on into which to stick the urm...stick (yea, language wasn't my best subject, lol.) its' possible but costly and i don't think it'll be as effective...

approx $50 a pair on ebay or use a wooden baseball bat that rolls fender lips too.
or.....
If you have access to a bench drill, drill a tiny hole through the shaft and put a nail through it to keep the hood up. You probably only need to do one side.
Personally, I would replace it. Go junkyard diving and find the replacement there.
i suppose i just grew to hate them because my hood has fallen on my head/hands more times than i can remember (and my jack handle slips sometimes - thats what i use to hold it up now). but if there is no easy way of swapping in the rod, then i guess ill be fine with a set of new struts.
and one more thing... is it me or are the n00bs reaching a new low every time i log on here

to answer your question... i dont believe that the gen 3 camry in any trim model came with a hood support rod. you will have to use parts from another model and try to make it work.
to comment... i love the hood struts and hate support rods. i dont know why you would want a rod instead of the struts. get some new struts and you are set. OR buy a carbon fiber hood (lighter).
