You want the hole on the camgear to line up with the notch on the bearing cap.
Make sure the notch/groove on the crank pulley is lined up with the "0" mark on the lower timing belt cover.
You can install the belt around the lower half and leave the top half (camgear) loose. Install the lower timing belt cover and crank pulley.
Line up the crank pulley + camgear, install the belt, install the tensioner + tighten the bolt.
Then rotate the crank clockwise from TDC to TDC (2 full revolutions (720 degrees)) and check the alignment of the crank and cam. Both the crank and cam should be lined up with the correct marks. If it doesn't line up correctly remove the belt, align the crank + cam, reinstall belt, and check again.

1. How do the seals come out? Has anyone done this?
|
You might be able to pry the cam seal out, I haven't tried prying it out.
The other way to do it is:
1. Unbolt the metal backing plate (the metal plate the upper timing belt cover bolts to).
2. Unbolt the bearing cap.
3. The cam seal goes around the camshaft. You can see it in the 1st pic above, its the black seal that goes around the camshaft.
Not sure how the crank seal (front main seal) comes out. I believe its part of the oil pump.
