broken vaccum hose

I was loking at the engine in the camry and found a broken hose that goes from the valve cover to a tank in the front of the engine. the tank uses two hoses and one of them is just broken loose. I looked at teh haynes manual and it says that it's called the Vaccum Tank. What does this do? doe sit affect how the engine works or soemthing?

I will take a shot at this! If it is a vacum resovoir the only thing I can think of would be to allow the brake booster to work for a liitle bit if the engine quit running thereby losing vacum to the brake booster. Or to allow vacum to the booster under high rpm/low vacum conditions.
Just quessing!

not on the gen 3, if it's the vaccume tank your ACIS system doesnt wount workand your causing a vaccume leak, the ACIS doesnt trip any codes because well it's not needed for anything but performace @ 75% throtal and under 3k rpm. but still your causing a VERY small vaccume leak and should plug that hose back in or buy some new hose of ebay.

Oh and it's not the evaporative chlorical canister because that one is located toward the back of the transmission, so it's not the one im talking about.

One of my cars had an aftermarket cruise which needed a vacuum canister/tank to maintain control going up hills. There's one on my '91 Toyota truck too.
