anybody swapped a new motor into their 3rd gen? I was looking at the 2JZGE out of the IS 300's and they arent that expensive. How hard would mounting the motor be? are there any specific motors that match up to the mounting spots that the 1mz has? I figure that the 2jz would be a better motor to base a build off of since parts are easier to find.
I was originally thinking i was going to swap in a is300 engine until i found out how hard and expensive it would be. The is300 is rear wheel drive to begin with which would make changing the drivtrain arangment necesary. All in all, if you have enough money you can do it but it will not be an easy swap.
sorry man, i'm not saying you couldn't do it, i'm just saying you would probably have to spend what you wuld pay for an is300 just to make the swap work. I have been looking for a better swap for the 3rd gen for years and so far it is pretty much only economical to do the mr2. Your better of getting a supercharger kit like i will be or get a turbo setup like some of the guys on the forum. Look at Tony the Tiger. He has a stock engine and he is pushing 400hp.
If you got the cash, I say go for it! A rwd Camry would be siiiick! Especially if you can put in a V8 from the GS400 or something. Ah... it's nice to dream....

Don't let comments like these deter you from doing what you want to do to your Camry. I've seen many people 'fix up' cars that have no real reason to go fast. Why do people do it? They have their reasons. Ever see a Dodge Colt spank a Vette? There's even a vid on the net of a Caravan leaving a Camaro in the dust at a track!!!.
When people ask me why in God's name I would mod a Camry I simply smile, nod my head and say "Because it's only a Camry." When I build here up enough to embarass people then I'll smile, nod my head, and say "Because it's ONLY a Camry."
Anyways, enough with the rant. With enough time, money, dedication, and swearing you can do it. Don't expect to be spoonfed either. Google is your best friend.

That's exactly why I want to build up my Camry. The only thing stopping me is the cost. Plus, I think my girl is starting to get too old for that sh*t.

all good man i used to have a fully built honda prelude and i was on honda tech all the time, theres always chumps who think they know everything. If i wanted a lexus IS300 i would buy one. I work hard as it is and probably make more money than you do, obelix. The whole point for me is creating something that no one has seen or done before. Im currently going to school for automotive technology and soon ill hopefully go into wideband tuning. Where else would you see a 4 door camry pushing into the 13's? pretty sick if you ask me. Anyways, im guessing the drive train from the lexus and the one from a cam might be somewhat similar. That would still be a project that im not too excited to get into, but ill talk to a couple of buddies i know. Its jsut hard to find good parts. Any of you guys with 1mz motors... Randy Monroe makes some of the best all n/a headers you can get for honda's. Yes, dyno proven. I talked to him a couple of days ago and he said he might be interested in fabbing headers for the 1mz. Im guessing price would range between 900 and 1100 a set. Yea it sounds pricey but his honda headers for for 900 dollars and with Intake and an exhaust they put down 18whp over stock. Yes, 18! Anyone else who might be interested in a set let me know, im gonna see if i can pull his leg to have him fab up a Y pipe and exhaust setup as well. Anyone seen 1 piece black housing headlights for the camry?
FYI-I'm pretty sure they have headers for the 1mz already.
the best swap you can do in to your camry to put it close to 13's as you want would be a 3sgte swap with upgraded internals, turbo and the accompanying transmission. I know you want bragging rights but really not much you can do with this car that isn't custom and $$$.
as for putting a RWD or AWD anything in to the camry, i'd just drop that out of your mind because it's not going to happen. The only reason why you see drag cars that are RWD with a solara body are because the frame is built from scratch and tubular in design. In order to make the camry RWD you would need to not only tunnel the chassis, find an accompanying motor and fit dimensionally and allowed room for the normal components and then you'd have to create a new suspension system to handle the change in components as the front suspension is built to be the drive portion of your vehcile and the rear suspension is built to trail. The dynamics of your car would be altered dramatically. Of course those are the major components you'd have to look in to in addition to smaller portions of the vehicle like fuel tank modification or relocation, engine management for your new engine, or possibly new seats due to the change of floor plans on your camry. It's not even worth the attempt at thinking about it, lets put it that way. Too much to do, too much money, and in the end even with tons of money not feasible.
If you're looking for a RWD 4 door sleeper I recommend selling your Camry and using the left over money to purchase a Cressida, drop in a 7mgte or possibly figure out how to retrofit a 1jzgte in, and spend your mounds of available cash on beefing up the frame and suspension (not that it will cost even CLOSE to as much as you would spend on a RWD camry). In the end you can have a sub 13 sec, 600+hp sleeper without having to reinvent the wheel.

camry guy no shit man haha ill build a 320 wheel horsepower car and tune the fuck out of it ill pull a 13... a low one at that. 600whp is where you have to start replacing your axles, not 300. You act like your talking to newbs here bud . Im not trying to make a camry drag car, just trying to have a clean camry sleeper.
Theres not quite as much bullshit involved as your making it out to be. If you take your time and do it right in my mind its not that difficult. Look at it from my angle as well... Nothing beats having people like you just scratch their heads and ask why the hell im doing this, and have the same person come up to me a year later and say "Damn dude this shit is clean??? Is this the same car as a year ago?" . If i do boost i dont plan on going over 6psi which stock internals can handle with a good tune.

Recipe for making good power naturally aspirated -- engine displacement, high RPM and a good supporting top-end (heads, valves, cams, etc). I am sure Randy @ RMF will make a set of awesome headers, but awesome power gains only comes from awesome engines that has awesome breathing ability.
Unfortunately, the 1MZ-FE has none of the above... I'd say spend the money and time else where.
Turbo or S/C is the way to go for the 1MZ, and with boost it's not that hard to make a Camry run 13's.
What else would you use the nice sturdy block and crank for? Boooooooost
You'll need low 11's or even 10's to impress people nowadays. You can never get there all motor.
