The IAC is a distinct possibility. Check you service manual for the test procedures and/or how to clean or R&R.

4 or 6cyl?? A throttle body cleaning and fuel filter change on my Cam stopped this problem.

Get a can of O2 sensor SAFE carb &intake cleaner and spray both sides of the throttle plate. Have the drivers side of the car lower than the passengers side so the dirty liquid will run back out of the throttle body and onto a rag. Also spray all the vaccum ports that u can see inside the throttle body.

To check the Idle Air Control valve like DFBonnett said check page 4-17 of the Haynes manual.

Kudos to you, sir. Sound advice and a page number for the Haynes Manual.
