4th Generation Which one....

98 Camry and Going to be replacing my garbage stock struts....what should I do?

$167/side full assembly monroe sensatrac

$85/side strut only (also monroe sensitrac). I don't want to get in there and find my mounts bad and have to replace those for more than $167/side but it would be much easier to buy the whole assembly but way more expensive (2x the amt).

What have you guys found out about the strut mounts and the best way to go on this?

Arn't the KYB struts the same ones in the car? I have been told that the monroe sensatracs are really good struts. I put them in my Legend and they were a little stiffer but I liked the ride, I actually got better traction than the stock ones. If the KYB GR2's are already in the car, there is NO WAY I am putting those pieces of garbage back in my car.

I looked to see if they sell the whole assembly for KYB GR2's and the Tokiko struts, and they don't. I wish they did.....

if you want a close to factory ride but a bit stiffer than get KYB GR2, they have them on Nopi, Ebay, and a bunch of other places.

I am worried that if I get in there and find that the mounts/bearings are out, then it will cost me a whole bunch more than the $160/side. $160/side is what I would pay for the whole assembly and I don't have to have a spring compressor, nor a torque wrench just put them in the hole. I think I am going to do that because I get new everything and it will take me literally 20 minutes/side to put in.

stock is not KYBs. I heard Sensitracs are garbage... breaks very fast. I changed to KYB GR2's on my 98 camry and its definitely stiffer than stock but MUCH better handling. You must change the strut mounts too... because I thought I could get away with it (since its kinda expensive) but it was worn out. Change it if you have more than ~80,000.

I had Monroe Sensatrac's on my Legend, I liked them a lot. Mechanics have told me that is all the put in cars is the sensatrac and they have no problems with them. My struts lasted me 50k with no probs (i sold the car) and they are lifetime warranty. When I buy Sensatracs, I will never have to buy new struts again. I bought the whole assembly (strut mount, spring, strut, bearing, etc....) for $160/side all compressed and everything (cheaper than buying the strut mount, bearing, strut separately. ($90 for the strut, $120 for bearing and mount).

Yep, I am looking at over $200/side with KYB's (struts, mounts, bearings) but actually the KYB struts are cheaper than the Monroe struts (alone). Monroe are about $85/side and KYB's are about $75/side.

Changed the struts, pretty stiff at first, but they are going to work out good as the springs are new and need to be broken in. But really good struts and easy to put in. I would suggest that anyone looking at doing mounts/struts at the same time put the Monroe Quick Strut in (everything per side cost 170 in comparison to 120 for mount/bearing and 90 for the strut).
