Unhappy Newbie needs a new transmission

I recently purchased a 1996 camry V6 LE with 112,000 miles. Drove it for 2 weeks with no problem then decided to have some service done. Transmission was drained and refilled, no filter change and no flush. Within 2 days I started having shifting and noise problems and these have steadily progressed. I have double engagement from park to drive. Upshifts are delayed and hard. Growling/ whining noise most of the time. It is 3 weeks later and I don't think the transmission will last another month. Any suggestions about the cause or remedy to these problems that doesn't involve replacing the drive train would be appreciated.

3rd Generation

That is the next step but I want to take it to a different shop. If anything was done seriously wrong the first time, a different shop should have no problem telling me so. I thinking of trying the local Toyota dealer.

Kind of hard for a shop to screw up a drain and fill! Unless they put motor oil in instead of ATF. Crazier thinks have happened though. I saw a lube place take out the front caliper brake bleeders and put in grease zerts!

did you happen to look at the color of the fluid before you changed it. if it was dark brown or black and gritty, then changing it would have not been a good idea as the tranny was surviving on the dirty, old fluid. Now that it has been drained and refilled, things in it that were worn out are now showing. I think that is your problem. Anytime fluid is dark brown or black, the fluid has been overheated because of slipping clutches, worn out pump, etc...

Also what is the fluid level at right now?

My suggestion is have it overhauled or replaced and put in a new torque converter.

Never have the tranny fluid changed without looking at the fluid in the pan, plus color, smell, and feel. If it is red or sorda brown, that ok, but if it is black and dark brown, changing it onlys buys time.
