Popping at idle

I've noticed that when my car is warmed up and idling (btw 650 - 700 rpm) apart from the throbbing of the exhaust there is this popping. Sorta like a misfire, but not as bad.

Like:

brbrbrbrbrbrbrbrrbr-pop-brbrbrrbrbrbrbrbrbr-pop-brbrbrbrbrbrbr etc

It sorta mixes in with the idle and the engine RPM doesn't change or anything. Normal idle fluctuation is present tho, ~650 - 700 RPM.

Any idea what this may be? Id like it to idle without this..it's probobly nothing..but..still.

2VZ-FE V6

Thanks!

it could be one of your mods on the engine that causes this

Does it only happen at idle or also when your driving (ie: under load)?

To test/check for misfiring problems, you can:

1. Pick a cylinder and unplug the sparkplug wire. You should hear a difference in the way the engine runs. If theres no difference, theres a problem with that cylinder.

2. Reinstall the sparkplug wire.

3. Repeat steps #1 and #2 for the other cylinders.

Do this test with the engine running.

Only at idle. Driving is fairly smooth
Although i have noticed that when i raise the RPM's in neutral..the revs sorta bounce a bit. Not a constant up and down..but similar to the idle..for example....hold it at 2.5k RPM, itll hold there and every so often drop down to 2.3/2.4k RPM... perhaps its related.

What I've read before is that popping noises coming from the exhaust indicate the engine running lean. Maybe a faulty O2 sensor or something is causing the ECU to lean out the mixture?

Thanks 88LE, ill try that 2moro.
Lean mixture is a possibilty...i've never changed my o2 sensor, so perhaps its on its way out.
Anyways to check for lean conditions?

I run Optimax (98RON) at the moment because of the Ignition computer. If i don't, it'll ping under load with normal 91/95.
I don't have m SAFC2 tuned or anything, its not actually connected to the AFM signal yet, so it'n not that..what would cause it to be lean, other than a faulty o2? I have a POD filter on atm, but i doubt that would cause too much air to be sucked in.
I always Toyta's always ran rich as!! Now apparently im LEAN!! ugh.
Perhpas this is also why my car surges at cruising speed. Someone suggested it could be my fuel pump no delivering properly.

So i assume the general concensus is that she's running lean? Just the idle seems to be a bit funny nowadays. And of course, it's always popped of the exhaust on slight deceleration (not full throttle OFF)...
