KYB GR2 drop questioned – Answered by KYB
Hello fellow camry owners,
I have seen a lot of KYB GR2 applications with drop kits on Camrys. When I had my 96 Honda Accord, I planned on using GR2s, but all Honda forums suggested not to use the GR2 because it’s intended design was for oem replacement shock and not for 1.5 drops, I was advised to use the KYB AGX, which I did.
Now I have a gen 4 and 5 and plan on dropping the gen 4 for now. I contacted tirerack and informed that why isn’t agx application for camry’s available and the tire rack service mentioned that GR2 can be dropped 1.25 with no problem and KYB will not void their warranty.. I am still skepticle, because what more is .25 drop will cause ? I emailed KYB and this is was their response:
hello,
is there an AGX application for my toyota camry le sedan ?
i plan on dropping the stock height down 1.5". only shock available is
your GR, which i thought was not a good application for drops. i know
several toyotanation.com members use the gr2 for dropping, but the agx
would be a better application. when i had my 96 accord i used the agx,
becuase several honda owners mentioned that gr2 are oem application and
will not handle a 1.5 dop.. please comment .
thank you
fran
KYB responded:

No AGX's for this application and a 1.5 inch drop is to much for the
GR-2 line for this vehicle.
So who is right ?
So I replied back with:
Troy,
Tirerack.com suggested that Eibach pro kit with a 1.2 front and rear drop may work with no void in KYB warranty. is that correct ?
Thank you

KYB replied back with:
Correct
So KYB GR2 will work with the Eibach or any springs with a max drop of 1.25 inches
Thanks
