Does anyone know what is the best quality Remote Starter for Camry 1997 LE? How much would it cost and what is the best place to pick it up?
I was quoted $300 for Labor, because it's a 3 hour job. Anyone thinks otherwise, please let me know.
Thanks

Thats CRAPOLA...... I paid $250 to have mine installed into a Hyundai Accent and that was the cost of the alarm and labor included. Who gave you that price quote. It is a long process to install these alarms but its not a hard job..... In fact you could probably do it yourself if you had a day to kill. You arent actually cutting wires.... just tapping into them. Most of your time will be spent crimping and taping wires up.
it all depends on what brand alarm you get, and what extra features you want on it.
300 for install is a bit high. but not really outragous. i think my install was 250ish, and took all day.
hello,
living here in cleveland, ohio, I plan on having a remote start installed on my 2k camry with factory alarm. here's my finding..
1. install of aftermarket remote start will also have keyless entry cabalities, which will allow you to have one key fob, which will be the aftermarket one. the oem can still be used and still work, but advised to put away.
2. install of aftermarket alarm/remote will tap into existing car's wire and oem alarm will stay intact and not be disturbed. very important to ask how they will tap into car wires. and ask to see the finish product after install.
3. camry gen 4 and 5 will need key transonder module, which is an additional charge of 40 bucks.
4. remote trunk release will not work if existing oem trunk release is not present.
so far.. Viper ranks up there and should run 300 purchased and installed, autostart is the next and then prestige/audiovox.
also to add prices vary in what functions you want, and the range of the alarm, for example 50ft away or more..
hope it helps. I'll repost when i have made my decision. as of now i am visiting as much as shops as i can, interview them, find out their warranty, call the manufacturer , do alot of refernce and research, because tapping into the cars electronic is vital.
after you pick the model, visit the remote start manufacturer and download manula and familiarize the functions, so after install you will know several functions.
i have a clifford remote start system that i am willing to sell for $60 shipped. never been installed still in its original box. got it for some money (alot more then $60) that was owed to me and i never put it in a car. now my cars are garage kept and there is no need to start it and warm it up 10 minutes before i leave anywhere. if interisted PM me.

i bought my viper second stage alarm system a year ago and it cost me 300 bucks installed and everything. viper truelly is one of the best alarm systems and i cant complain about mine.
I picked up a hornet alarm/starter with bi-directional remote for only $160US.
I'll be doing the install myself, and like an earlier poster said it's not hard, just takes awhile to hook all the wires to something.
(I've done my friend's Volvo and my Tercel with no problem)
The only cutting needing to be done in the case of the hornet is to split off the ignition and starter for antitheft and antigrind.

I have been fighting to install A canadian tire "prostart" for almost a year on a 97 LE manual transmission. It is definitely a tricky job. three hours does not sound to bad . The unit was on sale at $99 Canadian recently for the door lock & start package. I need to go to a serviceman as everything checks out but does not go into readi mode
