Gen5 .:Question!:. Tranny Maitenence.

Ok well my camry is at 30K now and some people have talked about tranny flushing, which i know is more harm than good, so im not gonna try it.

I just would like to know some basic tranny maitenence procedures.

2 days ago on a cold morning it was rainging and my tires spun up when i was trying to accelerate quick and the engine reved and kicked pretty hard.

and for the past day or so the car has a bit of a "PUSH" when it switches gears. like there is a lil more power behind the gear change.

Now should i be concerned with my tranny acting differently? I mean its not really noticable unless you focus on it and feel it through the pedal....

Maybe the fluid got to hot and needs to be replaced? what do you guys think?

I say tranny flushes till it reaches 100K miles, then tranny drain & fills.
To be over protective, buy a tranny cooler

Tranny flushes are a negative for Gen 5's, in any situation.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Yes, I agree with White chocolate. Never flush your tranny! I even went into a transmission shop asking about getting a tranny flush. He told me he doesn't recommend it because of the damage it can do to the seals. I'd just stick to the drain and refill every 2 yrs. or 30,000 miles.

What does the owners manual recommend? That is always going to be your best resource for information like this or you can ask your dealer. What they recommend is going to be best for the vehicle and also make sure you stay in waranty guidleines if for some reason you would need warranty repairs. SInce the trans is part of the powertrain it will be covered until 60K miles. You would hate to jsut let it go until it blows up and for some reason that is within the first 60k miles and then you have to fork over the money for the trans when it could have been taken care of under warranty.

I know when I was working for Toyota we jsut did drain and refills every 30k miles. IT was part of the 30k mile service.

You can drain the transmission, drop the pan and clean the screen and magnets. Just flush it off with clean fluid.

You could also flush the transmission at home if you want. Not difficult, just time consuming, and then you need to figure out how to get rid of bunch of used transmission fluid.

Pull the line where fluid goes into the radiator and put it into a bucket or a jug. Start the engine and drain about 1-1.5 qts. Stop engine. Fill back the ammount that drained out. Repeat for about 10-15 quarts.

Don't forget to drain and refill the differential while you're at it.

to add to the above, it would be easier to figure out how much trans fluid to put back in by marking quart marks on the bucket being drained into. so if a quart comes out, a quart goes back in. exactly.
