Gen5 Fixing Paint Chip Job

i had 4 paint chips, two on front hood, and two on the driver side door. i went to dealer and bought the touch up paint. got back and applied it, but since i am a novice, i think the job i did looks terrible. question is, how can i undo the paint chip job i did and start over again? will i need to sand it down? or buy some thinner to remove the touch up paint? thanks for feedback.

I know its a little late, but for future reference, never use the brush that comes with the touch-up paint. The best thing to do, that I did on my old Corolla, is to go buy a watercolor brush and use that to apply the touch up paint. When I touched up the scratches on the car before I sold it, it came out looking really really clean... you wouldn't know it was touched up unless you looked real' close, and directly at is, as if looking for it. Just my 2 cents.

yeah, White, you right dude. i used the brush applicator in the paint tube. figured i could just dab it lightly, but now i have lumps. lol. should i get some thinner and wipe that off even though it is still less than 24 hours since i made the error? how can i reverse this? sand it down? i should have used a match stick or toothpick.

I agree with white3chocolate the touch up guys we had come in to do work at our dealership used very small water colr brushes and it looked very good.
As for undoing what you ahve already done it is gonna be hard to. You could try the water color brushes and go over it again and see if that helps. As far as sanding it down and trying it again you are going to be worse off probably because you will ahv a larger area to paint then. At this point you will almost need to have it spryed. If that is the route you go you can probably find a local touch oup company to airbrush it.

You can look for a company like Colors On Parade in your area if it is that big a deal to you.

yup. it has to be touched up and fix by a pro now. probably compound it out, sand it down, clean it and paint in again, then smooth it out. lol. like you said, maybe even airbrush it too. the dots are real small though, not big.

i went to the Staten Island Toyota Dealership Maintenence shop and they charged me $7.00 for a small tube of black touch up paint which has a cap applicator brush attachment. wrong thing to use. now i have a blob on the spot. better to use a toothpick or end of a match to touchup. they sell the touchup paint pretty cheap considering it is OEM. i have paint on top of the surrounding area clearcoat paint. will have to remove it. and redo the job. the only way to prevent more chips is to apply a good wax and cover the front with a breathable bra or front end cover.

thaks bud, but how can i spray the enite panal when the chip spot is real small. there must a way to compound that or sand it and reaply the paint and then apply a clearcoat over that and sand it down some more, etc...
