4th Generation small problem with side wall of passenger side rear tyre

hey all.

i think i have a small problem with my passenger side (left hand side coz i'm australia) rear tyre. i've been noticing that ever since i got my new rims, whenever i have passengers in the back, regardless of their weight, i scrap my rear mud guards, but that's not my problem, the problem is, whenever i have 2 or more passengers in the back, my left rear tyre's sidewall, (the bit facing the outside) seems to be getting scratched or scrapped whenever i go over small bumps on the road. it doesn't happen to the other 3 wheels just this particular side.

the scratches/scraps aren't that big, it usually ends up being fine shreds of rubber hanging off like string.

i have a feeling that the cause is my mud guard or maybe incorrect tyre pressure, but the tyre pressure issue would be highly unlikely because i've checked it and followed the recommendations the wheel place i bought my rims from.

so guys any ideas on what is happening??

oh yeah, this might help too, the last time i took my car in to get serviced with the dealer, around 5000km ago, they told my dad who told me that one of my shocks is seeping but didn't tell me which one. so could that also be a contributing factor?

you guards are hitting your tyres.

What size wheels/tyres you got on it and has it been lowered?

mmm maybe that shocky is dying and is just not working. Ie that side is just running on springs. You can test it if you want by pushing down on that side, (open the door and bounce on the door sill) and see how long it takes to get back to position. If it takes more than 2 or so, your shocks are gone and you'll need a new one. The damage is probably from the wheel hitting the guards.

And i'm from aust too =)

and you have a pm =)

[edit] i should read the whole thing before i post hahahahah

I would ahve to say the struts are worn as far as it running the gaurds.

The only other thing is possibly the air pressure is low on that tire taht could be causing it to scrape or scratch as you stated.

i think i've figured it out.

i think because my left rear shock absorber is a little worn it sags a little more than the right one when i have more weight on that side, so my rear tyre is scrapping wheel arch/top of the guard.

so with that said, i think the best solution is to get harder springs and shocks all round, not just at the rear left to balance it all out.

thanks for the feedback guys. most appriciated.
