What To Get?

I've been seriously thinking of what next to get done to my Gen 2. ive narrowed it down to a set of rims (16"?), or a full 2 1/2" exhaust system that would cost me AUD$1400 from a reputable manufacturer here in oz (HiTech). they reckon it will give me 15-17% more power, but what does that equate to on the road?

On another note the specs for the Gen 2 4cyl. say that power is 115hp, thats at the flywheel isn't it?

are they doing a custom exhaust system for you or do they sell a kit?

i'm not sure, once i get the cash together i'll talk to them more. ive sent them an email and talked to the head guy at a big car show on the weekend and they just said they could do it for that price. i don't think they'd sell a kit, not a popular performance car, but maybe they would mix and match different components. you think i should get it?

i would go for a performance header and maybe get a turbo kit...that will give you more power...you can also just get a performance muffler and a new catback and it could do a lot. You dont have to spend that much on an exhaust system unless you can be certain about the gains.

I'd say get a nice set of rims first......make the car look good, and get some good rubber b/c if you're serious about getting performance out of your car, you will need good rubber to run around on or your car will be fast, but it'll get you killed.... :

and the price for the exhaust sytem sounds pretty okay.....'cept don't believe them about the performance gain....unless a car was VERY badly designed from the very beginning, you can't 'release' that much power just by letting the engine let off air more easily....expect somewhere around 5 - 10whp max gain....depends on the actual setup and also depends on your car.....

and yeah, when manufacturers give numbers, it's at the flywheel....you'd probably dyno around 100 or so, depending on your transmission...

either way, just do research before you get stuff and see if anybody else on the forum has the same kind of car and what they've done

happy modding! 8)

shop around first mate, HiTech may be reputable but sometimes you might get the same for cheaper...eg mate with a corolla(91) is getting extractors, 2-1/2 inch exahaust and CAI done for $500AUD from a local exhaust specialist. shop around...

I'd get some wheels first. Personal preference.

I think you need a lil edumacation.

You can't have a header and a turbo. You need larger exhaust for the turbo anyway. Performance muffler alone does very little (except make noise), same for a catback when compared to full exhaust.

$1400 is on the high side though, you may want to shop around a bit more for the piping and have a quality muffler welded onto it.
