USA AWD camry

88 AWD

You guys like these things? Wondering how they handle and their potential. Do they run off of the 5sfe? Can't remember...
Thanks.

Those camry's are really badass. If you are looking to make one hell of a sleeper and want a big project, swap in a 3sgte.

btw- it uses a 3sfe

The handling is very good, if you put lowering spring, gas shock`s ,
a heavy duty clutch and drop a V6 or 3S-GTE engine in it, the
honda ricer boys would have to taste your dust.

European 4WD comes i 3 "flavours"
XLI 4WD i4 128hp (standard interior, no extras)
GLI 4WD i4 128hp (sports seats, El-windows, EL-mirrors, C-lock)
And the dreaded very rare!! GXi V6 4WD 160hp (Leather seats, A/C, El-windows El, mirrors, Gas shocks, C-lock) it does exsist, ive seen it with my own eyes!

yeah they had them for Gen 2 only. and not very many of them taht I can remember. They were all tracs like the corollas and celicas.

As for coming back in the 07. It is a definit possibility that they can or will for the gen 6. Arent They are using Hondas S-awd or wahtever it is called that they use on the RL from Acura, I seem to rememerb seeing something int eh news section about this. Also now that they have the deal with Subaru going it makes it even more of a possibility to use their system or at least collaborate on the AWD system in toher cars. I know they are offering the AWD in the LExus line but arent they going to offer it in teh Avalon next year also. If they can do it in the Avalon there shouldnt be any reason they cant do it in the Camry.

The Awd camry`s are rare, even here i scandinavia (norhern europe)
A normal car with awd doesnt have a big enough market in the US to
justify making one, if an american want awd he/she buys a big SUV end of story.
The only other toyota 4wd cars that made it to norway was the Trecel stv and Corolla stv
and in my opinion they both look extremly ugly, but great in the winter and both got low rage gear
and diff lock for those steep hills or snowy roads

Tercel 4wd

I wouldnt count on it, dont think many would buy a
4wd camry, there`s just no demand for it, not in the US i think.

There is one in autotrader around here for 3400 (way too much imo). I was just wondering. Are they really that rare in the US?

edit* its not a wagon btw, its a sedan, fully loaded, 160K miles.

The RX300 is based off the camry, so would it be possible to do an awd conversion for the gen 5 camry using an rx300 as a drivetrain donor?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've already seen a nice tranny swap by Ratko, and the prospect of having a gen 5, v6, 5sp with 4wd would be awesome.

Anything is possible if you have the money. Putting the mechanicals in would be the easiest part of this probably, except the manual trans mission maybe. THen you have several new computers taht have to be put in the car and all the wiring since everything on the system is Electronically controlled. There are speed sensors, all of the TRAC system and on and on for it to work the way it is supposed to. I guess there would be someway to make it all work mechanically but then you are looking at more money. Maybe with the new Camry there will again be the option of AWD. Since they are going to offer it on the Avalon next year supposedly.

wtf?

as far as i know the only camry to get awd in the US was the gen 2 wagon. and its rather limited in production and performance... not worth it at all
